If I said that the federal government were banning forks, would you have this reaction? The main difference here is that banning incandescents is worse. Lighting has a huge effect on health and with the world being lit more and more by blue light screens, full spectrum lighting has never been more needed.
I don't care about energy efficiency when it comes to protecting my health but let's say I did, I use less electricity since I switched because I am more mindful of my light environment. This is the case broadly as well. Even though most people have switched to LED bulbs, home energy consumption levels are roughly the same or slightly increased.

Incandescent bulbs lasted 130 years because they just worked. Warm light, zero flicker, no cheap electronics dying in 2 years, no hazardous mercury, dimmable out of the box.
