Ghana’s rising cybercrime losses highlight the urgent need for stronger digital security and public awareness. As more people embrace digital financial services, building trust and protecting users must remain a priority.
Ghana has recorded GH¢209.7 million in financial losses from cybersecurity incidents in the first nine months of 2026. According to the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), 4,938 incidents were recorded between January and September 2026. The losses represent more than a ninefold increase compared to the GH¢22.5 million recorded in the whole of 2025, when 4,604 incidents were reported. The CSA's Director-General, Dr Divine Selasi Agbeti, says human error and social engineering account for between 60% and 95% of cybersecurity incidents. He has urged individuals and businesses to be cautious when using mobile money, internet banking and digital wallets, particularly when dealing with suspicious investment offers, impersonation attempts and requests for personal information. The Authority has also encouraged the public to report suspected cybercrime through its 24-hour short code, 292.
