The deepest motive for mission is simply the desire to be with Jesus where he is, on the frontier between the reign of God and the usurped dominion of the devil.
“If the gospel is to challenge the public life of our society, if Christians are to occupy the ‘high ground’ which they vacated in the noontime of ‘modernity,’ it will not be by forming a Christian political party, or by aggressive propaganda campaigns.
…which have remained hidden, and to expose all areas of public life to the illumination of the gospel. But that will only happen as and when local congregations renounce an introverted concern for their own life,…
The resurrection is the revelation to chosen witnesses of the fact that Jesus who died on the cross is indeed king - conqueror of death and sin, Lord and Savior of all. The resurrection is not the reversal of a defeat but the proclamation of a victory.

I am neither an optimist nor a pessimist. Jesus Christ is risen from the dead!

Live in the kingdom of God in such a way that it provokes questions for which the gospel is the answer.
Mission begins with a kind of explosion of joy. The news that the rejected and crucified Jesus is alive is something that cannot possibly be suppressed. It must be told.
The Incarnation and Pentecost together confirm the spiritual character of flesh and blood. The Cross and the Resurrection bring eternal life out of present sin and death.
God could have chosen others, but he has chosen us. We cannot say why. But we know the wherefore: he has chosen us to be the bearers of his promise of blessing of all mankind.
We need the witness of Christians of other cultures to correct our culturally conditioned understanding of Scripture.

In a world of curated feeds and cobbled-together creeds, the church mustn’t lose its song. The mash-ups may confuse, but the gospel’s melody is still strong.

We do not find Paul concerning himself with the size of churches or with questions about their growth. His primary concern is with their faithfulness, with the integrity of their witness.
If the biblical story does not control our thinking, then we will be swept into the story that the world tells about itself.
The church is not meant to call men and women out of the world into a safe religious enclave, but to call them out in order to send them back as agents of God's kingship.
A church that sees the cross of Jesus as the central event of history can never identify any political order with the reign of God.
