RIP Wendell Berry
My favourite farmer poet alongside Paddy Kavanagh, 89 year-old Wendell Berry here narrates the story of agricultural industrialisation. This is a must watch. It's easy to forget that farmers themselves are among the most endangered of species. youtube.com/watch?v=Se37BNgq…

Brilliant local journalism from Tripe & Drisheen. I walked this river many times when I lived in Cork. It was a depressing insistence I had of going back over what appeared lost. But there's still hope for the Glasheen. @TDrisheen tripeanddrisheen.substack.co…

When I heard about it yesterday I didn’t know he’d already accepted it. Seeing this photo today has sickened me to my core. Thinking of all the protests/gigs/fundraisers we’ve staged here for Palestine then to see him do this while Biden sends a further $8billion to kill more. 🤮

Interesting. Only Monty Don mentions climate change, while today's predictions for 2055 blithely overlook the thing that will most likely impact our geography and our ability to survive on this planet.

I'm sure a lot of hunters don't know snipe and woodcock are on the list. Also, I had to dig about to find it.

Red Grouse, Cearc fhraoigh, Lagopus lagopus hibernicus. A colourful upland resident, whose absence is more notable than its presence. Another red-listed species, free to hunt in Ireland. Pic. Richard T Mills @BirdWatchIE

Worth noting that hunting is not the primary pressure on these species. Poor upland management, habitat loss and fragmentation are probably the main drivers of decline, but it doesn't help surviving populations to have them targetted by hunters.
