Liverpool beat Brentford, and when it was 11 vs 11, I think it was arguably our best defensive performance of the season.

I've chosen to read into this that Nyoni wants Van Dijk to stay.
Trey Nyoni on Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson:
“Obviously Mo [Salah] and Robbo [Andy Robertson] are not here now, but they were a big part for me especially. They helped me a lot and advised me a lot off the pitch and just tried to be there for me.
“But just the advice and being in training every day has helped me a lot the last few years to be able to be in this position I’m in now. Having those players there, they helped me a lot.” 🔴

VVD header in UCL final to win the next Ballon d'Or?
Salah to win Conference League + AFCON 2027 to get Ballon d'Or?
TAA to win Palace POTY after helping them avoid relegation? Called up to make his fourth England appearance since 2025?
I'm not mad at this. I wouldn't have cared either way, but Kane has been one of the best strikers of the 21st century.
It's not even the best version of him, though.
Saying that, I still believe Salah was robbed, but we've all got used to Mo being overlooked for...reasons.
We're in a funny position at the moment with our midfield, because I don't think any of Mac, Szobo or Grav are starting in 18 months or so.
Or at least they're not starting in the double pivot.
Steven Gerrard on Liverpool’s midfield:
“Iraola might disagree and some Liverpool fans might disagree, but I still think Liverpool miss a real strong powerhouse in the middle of the team.
“Someone who holds the middle, stops people from playing through them and puts a lot of fires out. Like a Fabinho, for example.
“Mac Allister is good, but I don’t think he’s top at that.” 🔴

I maintain that Szobo's never been a double pivot player.
Midfield three, RB, or pushed further forward.
I said this for the first half against Brentford, but we're heading an incredibly positive direction under Iraola.
Our defensive level is really high, and so much of that comes from the coach.
If you want to know why we're not exactly great going forward, I made this thread the other day.
Still, Barcola, Isak etc can win you games on their own, so we're doing ok.
This is coaching btw. Having Araujo helps, but the block is so much more compact, and the pressing triggers are so much better.
We need the backline to commit a little bit more, and our in-possession play has levels to go up, but this is so positive.
By the way, our attacking play still obviously needs development, but I don't think people understand just how much better we are without the ball.
Brighton should have scored, absolutely, but in general, our mid-block and our pressing from the front has been really strong.
Writz has been our best player by far.
The amount he's helped us with our progression, dropping off from the front.
Our pressing from the front six have been decent, but one or both of Ayari and Kostoulas need to be picked up more.
AND speaking of our frontline pressing, Barcola I love you♥️
It's a gigantic game for Grav btw.
There's an argument that he's behind Nyoni anyway (Nyoni doesn't have the fitness required for two/three games a week imo), but he's at risk of beocming an emergency cover option at best.
Anyway, read my work before we play Brighton.
