Chief Electoral Officer of Elections Alberta, Gordon McClure, has sent a letter to ALL 87 MLAs.
Do Not Approve the new electoral map Monday.
Why?
It will delay the next Alberta provincial election!
Be worried Albertans and Speak Up NOW!

Far right populists in Alberta have given up on winning elections. If they can't compete, they have decided to cheat.
They are gerrymandering maps and trying to break up the federation instead of doing the hard work of building broad and durable coalitions.
Lazy losers.

Elections Alberta is right to raise the alarm over rushing to adopt a new electoral map. It's simply not feasible to bring one in less than a year before an election.

Jogging in the dark is not the problem. Male violence against females is the
FUCKING PROBLEM!!!
A woman has been stabbed in the neck while jogging in Boston at 8pm
She isn’t expected to pull through 💔
There are people in the comments arguing she shouldn’t have been jogging so late
Women should be bloody safe at 8pm in a major city

19 women are running for U.S. senate and a record 26 for governor. Women hold 27 of the Senate's 100 seats and 14 of 50 governorships. 15 states have never had a female U.S. senator and 17 have never had a female governor. @kimelsesser

Completely true & disturbing. I will be voting in a gerrymandered nonsense called Lethbridge-Waterton, the two ends of which have totally different concerns--all so UCP can bust up an NDP-held urban riding. What political perverts UCP are. Donald gerrymanders so we must too.

MINNESOTA: “A vacant private prison offered to sell to the state for $75 million… One year later Trump used taxpayer funds to buy it from (BRENTWOOD, TN-BASED) @CoreCivic for $495.6 million…”
Actual fraud in Minnesota. Corruption in plain sight as Trump steers billions to his friends/Republican donors. @MarshaBlackburn

The bigger issue? No one bothered asking them. A core element of independent boundaries commission work is public consultation.
Absolutely zero of that in this case.
You can't gauge community interests unless you engage communities.

Danielle Smith needs to cheat to beat the NDP in Lethbridge.
Time to go to court.
Jesus Christ - watching the Alberta Leg committee on the boundaries change, @nenshi confirmed the UCP is going to split Lethbridge up (likely the four way split we saw in the minority maps) and the Calgary rural-urban split seats.
Shameful @ABDanielleSmith, dirty cheater. #ableg

I have never seen a more interventionist government. A horde of incompetents who want to manage every aspect of life.
Parents play an important role in their children's education, and having clear information helps them stay informed and involved.
We're introducing new legislation to improve transparency, strengthen communication and support greater parental involvement in Alberta's schools.
Our proposed changes would:
☑️ Establish consistent provincial standards for report cards so parents can better understand their children's progress and achievement.
☑️ Require school authorities to inform families on how professional development and other non-instructional operational days are used.
☑️ Require school authorities to establish clear processes for addressing parent concerns that haven't been resolved at the school level.
☑️ Require public school boards to obtain ministerial approval before beginning the process of naming or renaming school buildings.
These changes will make it easier for parents to stay informed, raise concerns and play an active role in their children's education.

Some pretty wild takeaways from today's electoral boundaries committee meeting:
Lethbridge would be split into FOUR ridings instead of its current two urban ones. Three would combine city neighbourhoods with surrounding rural areas.
Three urban-rural hybrid ridings are proposed along Calgary's northwest and western edges. Springbank gets split up. Kathleen Ganley questioned why the panel was citing GOLF COURSES to justify its boundaries.
Okotoks and Diamond Valley would be split apart, with Diamond Valley paired with Banff. The panel's dissenting members say public submissions overwhelmingly favoured keeping them together.
Ganley says Calgary and Edmonton ridings would average 7,000 more residents per MLA than ridings outside those cities. That's a 14 percent difference.
The NDP wanted to put its concerns about the maps on the record. UCP MLAs voted 3–2 to end the committee's review before those motions could even be considered.
The NDP also wanted taxpayers to know how much the panel and its outside consultants were paid. UCP MLAs voted that down too. Ganley says the panel chair gets an extra $5,000/month on top of regular pay.
The UCP says the maps should be debated in the Legislature once they're public. The NDP wanted the committee to scrutinize them now.
Meanwhile, Albertans still haven't seen the maps. The report is due November 2.

The gerrymandering has come out in Alberta.
It means the end of 15 years of work on a level playing field for Lethbridge New Democrats.
Profoundly illiberal, undemocratic, and a disgrace for every person involved in this fiasco.
