Leadership is often perceived as a static set of skills or characteristics that one either possesses or does not. However, this perception fails to capture the dynamic and context-dependent nature of leadership.
The description I use “Leadership is an improvisational practice that occurs in a group in a particular set of circumstances” encapsulates this complexity.
I’ll dissect this statement to explain my understand of its implications and how it reshapes understanding of effective leadership. -

So almost 60% of private schools are special schools, cf 10% of state. I guess this would help account for some of this difference. gov.uk/government/statistics…
That said, only 22% of private pupils appear to have an EHC plan (is my reading of the FT story). So 42% is still high.

But to have real impact, it's also important to engage with policymakers, civil society & business.

“You're stumbling around in the dark, and then someone finds something, they flip on a light switch…When I turn that light on, I create all that value from everyone else being able to see, but I don't capture it myself”
