Brilliant walk & talk @CorySwan 👌
For the first five years of our company, the final slide of every Swan corporate presentation included these words from Menger’s 1871 book, Principles of Economics: “Only a small number of economizing individuals will at first recognize the advantage accruing to them from the acceptance of other, more saleable, commodities in exchange for their own.” “This knowledge will never be attained by all members of a people at the same time.” That’s the process Bitcoiners have been living through. You can explain Bitcoin to two people on the same day, and one starts saving in it, while the other dismisses it for years.

The greatest heist in world history... Seven men boarded a private railroad car in New Jersey on the night of November 22, 1910, under fake names, and by the time they reached Jekyll Island, Georgia, they had begun drafting the legislation that would hand control of American money to the banks that needed controlling. Nelson Aldrich organized the trip. He was a Rhode Island senator, the father-in-law of John D. Rockefeller Jr., and the chairman of the National Monetary Commission. He brought Paul Warburg of Kuhn, Loeb and Company, Frank Vanderlip of National City Bank, Henry Davison of J.P. Morgan and Company, and a handful of other men whose combined institutions held one-quarter of the world's investable wealth. They told no one. They used first names only on the island. The servants who staffed the Jekyll Island Club were replaced before arrival. The cover story, once the trip leaked years later, was that these men gathered to reform a broken banking system for the public good. How generous of them. They built a cartel with a government badge. The Federal Reserve would act as a lender of last resort, meaning your tax dollars and your inflated purchasing power would backstop the riskiest decisions made by the largest banks. Smaller banks, those that competed with Morgan and Rockefeller institutions, would face reserve requirements Washington enforced on their behalf. Credit expansion, which produces the boom-bust cycle you live through every decade, would now operate through a centralized mechanism immune from market discipline. Warburg, who had spent years lobbying for a European-style central bank in America, drafted the core structure. Aldrich carried it to Congress. Congress passed it as the Federal Reserve Act on December 23, 1913, after many members had already left Washington for Christmas recess. The scheme operated through rhetorical genius. They named it a reserve system, implying caution. They called it federal, implying public ownership. A private banking cartel now possessed the legal authority to manufacture money. You have been paying the interest on that arrangement ever since.

Governments have always backed their money with force. You pay taxes in dollars because the IRS can freeze your accounts and, if you cheat, put you in prison. That demand is a big part of why the dollar has value at all. Bitcoin works differently. Mining one block today takes more than 10^23 hash computations. Miners in places like West Texas burn real electricity, buy real hardware, and compete with every other miner on earth for thin margins. All that spending is what makes new bitcoin scarce. Sound money people have always said money should cost something to produce. Gold did, for centuries, because geology and metallurgy limited the supply. Central banks loosened that limit in stages, and Nixon closed the gold window in August 1971. Since then, M2, the broad measure of the US money supply, has grown from roughly $685 billion to more than $21 trillion. We all paid for that through higher prices. Bitcoin brings the constraint back, and nobody has to give permission. The protocol resets mining difficulty every 2,016 blocks, so a new block arrives about every ten minutes no matter how much computing power joins. No central banker can call a Saturday meeting and double the supply. That matters because money that costs nothing to make lets governments pay for wars, bailouts and surveillance without raising taxes to the point of revolt. With proof-of-work, you either spend the energy or you don't get the coin. That makes it the most subversive idea in the history of money.

SAMSON MOW: "Money was permissionless for 4000 years, Fiat is 50 years old... Fiat money is the experiment and this is why I'm very bullish on Bitcoin and I think we're going to see a million dollars a coin, we're going to see dollar-sat parity because it's a restoration of the natural order of things that you have permissionless money." "Bitcoin is what you can't be stopped from owning. And open source AI is what you can't be stopped from building. One is your sword and one is your shield. What this enables is that every person on earth, every machine can transact freely and think freely without needing to ask for permission."

It's called skimpflation. It's caused by central banks. Bitcoin fixes it.

Mimint is a biological supermarket in Arnhem @bitcoinstad that has been accepting bitcoin since 2014. It is run by lovely people. Today I stopped by again for a quick errand. No fiat money needed to buy this.

Technology should make everything cheaper. It does, in fact, make everything cheaper. The spreadsheet replaced entire accounting departments. The tractor replaced forty farmhands. Containerization slashed global shipping costs by roughly 90 percent after 1956. Manufacturing robots now produce goods in hours that once took weeks. Every one of these innovations compresses the real cost of production. So why does your grocery bill keep climbing? Because a counterforce erases every efficiency gain before it reaches your wallet. Central banks, primarily the Federal Reserve since 1913, expand the money supply faster than productivity grows. The Fed has increased M2 money supply by over 40 percent between 2020 and 2022 alone. Ludwig von Mises identified this mechanism precisely: every dollar created without corresponding production dilutes the purchasing power of dollars already in circulation. The gain from the robot on the factory floor disappears into the monetary expansion decided in Washington. Government spending compounds this. Federal outlays exceeded $6.7 trillion in fiscal year 2025, most of it deficit-financed, meaning newly created money chasing existing goods. Licensing regimes, zoning laws, and FDA approval timelines add years and billions to bringing productive innovations to market. Technology is genuinely winning the war against scarcity. Televisions, clothing, and computing power cost a fraction of what they did in 1990. Housing, healthcare, and education, the three sectors most saturated with government intervention, keep climbing regardless. Inflation is a policy. Deflation is what free markets deliver.

Fiat (government-decreed money) is killing millions of good people, destroying families, and deteriorating the culture of humanity. Wake up call: The stock market is not going up. Dying companies propped up by fake money won’t withstand gravity forever. Your paper-thin fast food burger isn’t suddenly worth $18 because it’s bigger or better. It just costs more. Fiat is a house of cards getting rapidly more flimsy as its foundation weakens and crumbles beneath its own corrupt design. “AI will eradicate humanity,” is just the latest distraction in the Fiat fear factory. The greatest threat is not AI. AI is part of the solution. The greatest threat is Fiat. Money has no place in government. A government cannot determine the true value of anything. Only a REAL, hard money can do that. Money is not meant to be controlled. It is meant to be harnessed. It should just be available to all people at all times, like air or sunlight. Bitcoin and AI solve the problem of broken money. Together, they could end Fiat’s evil reign and bring humanity back into balance. This would theoretically lead to an age of abundance, where everyone has enough by default, and those who want more can provide additional value to ascend higher. Can you see it?
