I remember talking to a doctor who had worked with the NBA before and he told me specialization in kids at a young age is a big reason. You’re forced to focus on one sport, and one set of movements from age 9 or whatever. That + the wear and tear of AAU tournaments across 10+ years + the increased pace & space teams have to cover… yeah. But apparently it starts at a grassroots level, at least anecdotally!

It was a beginner’s league, for kids who DON’T KNOW HOW TO PLAY. The parents were asked to leave (with refund) because the kid was clearly not a beginner - the parents refused and created a fake story.
