ATHLONE TOWN: A NEW STANDARD OF DOMINANCE
Athlone Town have made League of Ireland history, becoming the first team to win three consecutive Women’s Premier Division titles.
Their 2026 triumph also sets a new record for the largest winning margin in the competition’s history, finishing 13 points clear of their nearest challengers.
The previous record was set by Shelbourne in 2016, when they finished eight points ahead of DLR Waves.
Before Athlone, the teams to win consecutive league titles were:
• Raheny United
• Wexford Youths
• Wexford Youths
• Shelbourne
• Peamount United
None had managed to win three titles in succession.
Three consecutive titles. A record-breaking winning margin. A historic achievement for Athlone Town.
