Many talented data professionals move into more platform/technical roles as their careers progress - going from creating first order business value (data products, actionable insights) to second order value (pace, confidence, ease of iteration). 1/3
Joy comes from an internal sense of alignment with what is "good". Focus more on becoming more joyful. Focus less on obtaining happiness.
Rereading books is fun because lines hit differently as you change.
How you bookmark a book on one read shows who you were then.
How you bookmark a book on a new read shows who you are now.
The difference shows what's changed. And that's deeply personal.

The best way to start studying a subject is to understand:
(1) the fundamental question you're trying to answer
(2) why answering that question is important to you

Your goal should be to reduce the suffering within the system.
First, seek to do no harm.
When you over-focus on the goal, time itself becomes negative.
Learn to enjoy the work you have to do to get to your goal.
The hardest part about setting an ideal is that you feel judged by that ideal. It feels bad to not live up to your own ideal.
That's why role models are useful. They externalize what you could become, making your ideal aspirational.
You become inspired, not self-critical.
