The attacker cannot access your private network. Your backend can. That’s the SSRF problem

Good morning all,
This week is going to be a blessed and amazing one for me, my mutuals, and anyone who ends up joining my community this evening.
The 90-day sprint will officially start on Wednesday, but we will use today and tomorrow to get the total number of people joining the community and place you all in groups, since you will be working in groups for proper accountability.
We are here to learn, to build, and to serve the community.
And I pray we achieve that over the 90 days.
Just do well to join the community today.
And one more thing, do well to repost so others can benefit from it too.

Honestly, I’ll advise we all watch this video to the end. This short, less than 6-minute video explains these system design concepts in a very clean way.
Client-server architecture, load balancing, caching, database design, microservices, circuit breakers, database replication, sharding, trade-offs, security, observability, CI/CD, and fault tolerance.

A Nigerian fintech startup lost ₦47 million in one night.
Not to hackers. Not to fraud.
To one missing line of code.
Every backend dev in Nigeria needs to see this

In 2023, Chidi’s app was flying.
50,000 users, great reviews, investors were interested.
then one Monday morning his database query that used to take 0.2 seconds
started taking 47 seconds.
nothing in the code changed.
no new deployment, no new feature, nothing.
he spent 3 days debugging the wrong things entirely.
the answer was one word he’d been ignoring since day one

Two years ago, a developer I know launched a small product here in Nigeria.
Everything was going fine.
Users were signing up, logging in, and using the platform daily.
Then one morning he woke up to something strange.
Several users were complaining their accounts had been accessed… without their permission.
Kindly bookmark for yourself and retweet so others too can learn

GM everyone. Hope you all had a good night’s rest.
This week I’ll be sharing content for developers who want to solidify their backend knowledge or are just getting started.
Today and tomorrow, I’ll break down Authentication Systems, covering key concepts like secure token handling, why storing generated tokens in localStorage can expose you to XSS attacks, how refresh tokens work, recommended industry practices for token expiry, and important edge cases you should test before shipping an auth service.
Your auth service is the backbone of your application. If it’s poorly designed, the entire system becomes vulnerable.
Later in the week, I’ll also dive into payment systems, things to watch out for, when to implement row-level locks, idempotency, and proper industry approaches to building reliable transaction flows.
New threads will drop every day by 11:45 AM.
If you’re serious about backend engineering, you’ll want to follow along.
Bookmark and retweet this so you don’t miss the threads.

If microservices solve scaling problems, why do so many companies end up migrating back to monoliths later?

I get that feeling.
I’ve learned not to rush it.
There was a time I felt I had to code every single day, but deep learning, reading, reflection, and rest actually made me better.
Now, even on no-coding days, I’m still growing. Sometimes stepping back helps more than forcing it.
