Macbeth's seven soliloquies. So many uses! Chararcter tracking, language analysis, making connections...I'm going to try to learn them all by heart. #TeamEnglish dropbox.com/s/606t74rj60lnfa…

📚 English leads A MUST READ 2025 #WhatKidsAreReading report Link here 👉 renaissance.widen.net/s/xgvp…
1. The more they read…the more they like it
Only 1 in 5 kids read daily for pleasure. Timetable time. Protect it. Talk about books. Let them choose.
2. Walliams isn’t enough
He tops the charts AGAIN 😔but are his books stretching pupils? Promote stories that spark thought not just (questionable/unethical) laughs.
3. Mind the gender gap and think about representation of who and how
Girls enjoy reading more than boys in every age group. Audit your texts. Enough graphic novels? Barrington Stoke reads? Make reading feel like it belongs to everyone.

Hello - I wrote a new blog about the teaching of whole class reading, which I haven't in a while. It's over 9000 words so quite a read, but I hope the comprehensive nature of it comes across as helpful, rather than patronising. Anyway - hope it's useful!

Settler grid - ask students to pick one and complete at the start of class - great method for retrieval.

"Pretending" in An Inspector Calls
The words "pretend" and "pretence" appear 12 times in An Inspector Calls.
JBP uses them to reflect the insincerity and moral failure of the Birlings' society.
