So excited for Yomar. I’ve watched him for the past year and a half work his butt off. Learning the trade in the mornings and helping Joe run horses in the afternoon. I have had the pleasure of getting to know him and would be hard pressed to find another 17 year old that is as hardworking and dedicated as him. #proudadoptedauntie

What started as a childhood dream became reality for 17-year-old jockey @yomar_ortizjr on Wednesday!
After years of pretending to ride horses on his grandmother's couch, Yomar made his professional debut aboard Eli's Promise for trainer @mjsharp75_joe @Keeneland. Despite a compromised start, the young rider finished a strong second and crossed the wire full of adrenaline, excitement, and ready to do it all again!
Go behind the scenes for his first leg up, the race itself, and Yomar's emotional reaction to a moment he'll never forget.

Despite a runner-up finish, what an incredible career debut for 17yo YOMAR ORTIZ, JR. aboard Eli's Promise at @keenelandracing for trainer @mjsharp75_joe!
After a slow start breaking a distant last, Eli's Promise trailed by 7 1/2 lengths at the first point of call and went on to finish second by 3 lengths behind Lucky Shot under @yomar_ortizjr!
Congratulations on a great ride, Yomar! We'll see you in the winner's circle soon!
