Under the current system, legally carrying a firearm across state lines is a legal minefield. States with stricter gun laws don't recognize carry rights from other states, which means a responsible gun owner can unknowingly become non-compliant just by traveling. It's one of the most frustrating inconsistencies in American law. Trump's national carry plan would resolve this by making carry reciprocity national, so the right you exercise legally at home stays with you across all fifty states. It treats the Second Amendment as the national right it is rather than a privilege that varies by geography. For gun owners who travel, live near state borders, or simply believe the Constitution means what it says, this plan is long overdue.
