Imagine if a sitting Republican senator said voters should reject Jon Ossoff or Josh Shapiro because they reject Jesus. That would be a big story. This won't be because Islamophobia from powerful Republicans is simply the norm. It's why there's no comparison between the level of Islamophobia and the level of antisemitism in America today. Only one is actively promoted by the state. peterbeinart.substack.com/p/โฆ

Whatever happens, I want to plead with media, pundits, and strategists gaming 2028 not to simply look at Michigan results through standard Right vs Left / Left vs Center paradigms. If you asses this race and donโt account for the unrelenting racism, youโre engaged in malpractice
Vance on El-Sayed: We have to understand what happens when our nation gives into these kinds of people with zero attachment to its land or to its history.
What we saw in France, the hatred, the ingratitude, the desire to destroy rather than a desire to build, that exact same cancer that has corrupted El-Sayed.

Looking forward to the ADL & friends - who no doubt are enjoying the piling on against El-Sayed - weighing in on this framing, which by extension also delegitimizes Jewish participation in US political life.
Moreno: "I campaigned with Mike Rogers because he's in a race with somebody that is an affront to me as an American, as a naturalized citizen. Abdul El-Sayed can be nowhere near DC. Do you think he understands that concept that our rights come from God Almighty? That Jesus came here for our salvation? He should be nowhere near Washington DC and Mike Rogers is going to kick his ass."

Donโt be mislead by @jonfiner and @PhilGordonDC. Theyโre both seasoned sanctions practitioners. They know full well that the economic and financial warfare theyโre advocating against Israel wonโt stop at the Green Line. It will hit banks, businesses and all Israelis inside Israel itself.
Their mission is clear: coerce Israelis into accepting a Palestinian stateโeven if it is highly likely it will be controlled by Hamas, riddled with corruption, and posing a mortal threat to Israelโs security. They have learned nothing from October 7 and the failed territorial withdrawals of the past.

What nonsense. Not the first time the US has put itself on the wrong side of an issue for Israel.
The UN harbors a moral fugitive who spews hatred for America, the West, Jews, and Israel. Francesca Albanese is institutional poison, doing grave damage to the UN, and tarnishing the work of brave UN personnel who risk their lives to feed the starving and keep the peace.

Very important meeting today between representatives of the Mecca Pact (KSA, Pakistan, and Turkey) and Iran in Tehran.
But an invitation for Tehran to join the pact was not on the agenda.
Rather, an emergency session in which the three are requesting Iran's help to end the conflict with Ansarollah, which is threatening to destabilize Saudi Arabia.
From the Iranian perspective, KSA has committed the same mistake as Trump: Starting a war that it cannot control or end.
Tehran is willing to help, a source in Iran tells me, but Ansarullah's condition for KSA to lift the air blockade on Yemen before any fighting ends is unchanging.
(Ansarullah is focused on the air blockade, not the sea blockade)
Still, this meeting reflects something even more important, and something we and other restrainers have pointed out for years: As the US pulls back militarily, contrary to Washington's conventional wisdom, regional states are showing greater agency and taking responsibility for the region's security themselves.
This does not mean all problems will be resolved or that conflict and chaos will be avoided, but it will be their conflicts, their chaos, and their responsibility, not the US's.

There has been speculation that Netanyahu might try to accidentally on purpose provoke a resumption of war with Iran, in hopes of helping him in his election. The Israeli chief of staff appears to share that concern.
Israel's Channel 12 Reporting (English translation of their report:)
Breaking news in this edition
An unprecedented confrontation between the Chief of Staff and the Prime Minister has reached a criticalโor perhaps disastrousโturning point over the last 24 hours.
At the heart of the matter: the Iranian issue.
There is concern on the part of [Chief of Staff] Zamir that Netanyahu and the political leadership might trigger a scenario of miscalculation vis-ร -vis Iran, just ahead of the elections.
A defense official states that the action in question could lead to a rapid confrontation with Iran at a highly sensitive and dramatic moment, potentially resulting in a miscalculation.
Sources familiar with the details indicate that the military leadership fears an attempt to exploit the Iranian issue for political gainโa claim that political figures deny, labeling it an outright lie.
Regardless, two sources tell me that the situation has escalated to the point where, during a visit to the Palmachim Airbase today, the atmosphere in the discussion was extremely tense.
In recent days, Zamir received a directive from the political leadership but requested an in-depth discussion before taking any action.
He also demanded formal, signed legal authorization from the political echelon for the proposed move.
A senior defense official remarked: "History will not forget the role Zamir has played here over the last few days."
In short: an exceptionally intense confrontation between Zamir and Netanyahu regarding the Iranian issue, occurring just before the elections.
It should be noted: all details in this report have been approved by the Military Censor.

In July 2024, Lana Nusseibeh publicly and categorically rejected the UN Panel of Expertsโ findings of credible evidence that #UAE supports the atrocities and genocide committed by the Rapid Support Forces (#RSF) militia in Sudan.
Confronted on CNN, she declared: โNo. Those allegations are categorically untrue.โ Asked directly whether she disputed the UN expertsโ findings, she replied: โYes, absolutely.โ
Now, Ms. Nusseibeh seeks to lead the very institution whose findings she so emphatically dismissed in defence of her government. How can she possibly be entrusted with that responsibility? The fundamental question is not whether Nusseibeh was entitled to defend her regime. It is whether someone who placed that defence above the credible findings of UN experts can genuinely be entrusted with upholding the independence, integrity, and authority of the United Nations.
Why should the world trust her judgment when the UNโs findings conflict with the interests of the very government that nominated her? The UN highest office is not for protecting a criminal regime from scrutiny and accountability. The seat of the UN Secretary-General should not be for sale!
Jim Lobe retweeted
In some ways, @Lana_Nusseibeh is a compelling candidate for UN Secretary-General. She's a woman from a moderate Gulf country and has a record of effective diplomacy -- but unfortunately she has proven her effectiveness by backing the UAE's role in arming the RSF militia as it has engaged in mass murder and mass rape in Sudan, in a rampage that both the Biden and Trump administrations have called genocide. So, sure, an effective diplomat is wonderful -- but not if the effectiveness is divorced from values the UN is meant to promote. No doubt she thought she was simply supporting the policies her country's leaders set. But hundreds of thousands have died in Sudan, as best we can tell, and she has helped lead a UAE diplomatic effort that has lied about it, covered it up and persisted in it even as the slaughter continues. Shouldn't that be disqualifying?
I am standing to be Secretary-General because I believe this is a moment to act with greater urgency: to act earlier, bring people together across difference, and drive the work forward until it produces concrete results. That is how we rebuild trust in the United Nations and ensure it delivers meaningful change for the people it exists to serve.

Nusseibeh was the UAEโs point person on Sudan, according to Justin Lynch, managing director of the Conflict Insights Group research organization. โThroughout this war, she assured other governments that the UAE was not backing the RSF, even as Washington and other capitals knew internally that it was,โ he told the AP.
