Local governments CAN cut property taxes AND fully fund fire departments and law enforcement.
If they say they can’t, they’re lying.
I will not stand for career politicians demonizing our first responders so they can keep their wasteful spending.
Last week, @MayorDaniella said 9+ min response times are clearly no “emergency.” She said, even if it was, carryover funds are there. Yesterday, we found out all carryover funds are allocated & encumbered. There was no freely available carryover funds. The budget games continue.

Ending after 4:30am this morning, after an almost 12 hour non-stop hearing, the budget passed on first reading- not without an immense amount of discussion, negotiation and advocacy.
Thank you to the 240 residents who came to speak. We hear you. Thank you to our Metro Dade Fire Local 1403 for their steadfast advocacy. We see you. While there were many issues with plenty of necessary gives and takes, as has always been the case, on our residents public safety, I will not vacillate.

Miami-Dade @MayorDaniella and county commissioners are whittling away at this year’s budget cuts, but are they just kicking all the ugly cans into 2027? miamiherald.com/news/local/c…

Looks like fire union not onboard yet with helicopter compromise. Intense huddle in the back of the chambers with union leaders, @CommishRR Regalado and budget and safety chiefs under @MayorDaniella
Compromise proposed on helicopter funding. @MayorDaniella says over 2 years she’ll shift full cost of program
back countywide property tax, from Fire Rescue property tax — where most of the costs are paid. Used to be CW tax paid all of it. Credits @CommishRR Regalado for deal

A Message from ALL firefighters, from all 6 fire departments in Miami-Dade County, regarding “Our Air Rescue”
Yesterday, the Mayor told @kbindependent the County would never charge the 5 cities with their own fire depts for Air Rescue. Yet on 8/20, her Budget Director said MDFR must explore contracts with those same cities. Read and watch - which one is true?

Miami-Dade is short 36 fire engines & response times are 9+ minutes. Instead of fixing it, Mayor Cava is raiding firefighter funds to cover her $400M deficit—forcing dangerous cuts to our firefighters. Miami Dade GOP stands with our 4,000+ firefighters. @Local1403
Our firefighters are looking forward to this week’s budget discussion about the necessity of proper countywide funding for Air Rescue’s lifesaving services.
Los recortes al presupuesto de bomberos están robando minutos preciosos, y las vidas están en peligro. Cada segundo perdido puede significar una tragedia—exija a la Alcaldesa que restaure la financiación de Air Rescue a nivel de todo el condado ahora!

Today, I stood with our brave firefighters to oppose a dangerous proposal in the County budget, shifting the roughly $30 million cost of air-rescue helicopters onto the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue fund.
This has the potential of increasing response times for our first responders, when our goal should always be to reduce them. Every minute matters in an emergency, and one minute can mean the difference between life and death.
We should never balance our budget on the backs of our first responders. Our firefighters deserve the full support of this community, not added burdens. I have and will always fight to ensure public safety comes first!
