code stopped being a moat. taste didn't. anyone can generate an image now, almost nobody can say what they actually want in it 🍌
paper-cut is the most underrated style for AI images right now. here's how we built these two 🍌
the look: layered paper cutouts, a side-profile head as the frame, and the idea living inside it. it works because it shows a thought literally — the head is the container, the scene is the idea.
how to get it:
1. one silhouette, nothing else. a single side-profile head on a plain background. it's your frame and your negative space at the same time.
2. 3–5 paper layers, max. ask for "layered paper cut, visible paper edges, soft drop shadows between layers." the shadows are what sell the depth.
3. a tight palette. one warm accent (banana yellow, obviously) against cream, sky blue or black. more colors = more clutter.
4. put the concept inside the head. image 1 dreams up a banana island. image 2 holds a film strip, a thought turning into frames.
5. let the type do one job. a short serif line under the art — "picture it first." — and that's it. if you need a second sentence, the image isn't clear enough yet.
the bigger lesson: start from the picture in your head, then pick the style that can show it. not the other way around.
save this for your next poster 🍌
