Our preprint has now been peer-reviewed and published! We described a role for kinase CK2 and phosphatase CTDNEP1 in regulating protein turnover of SUN2, an inner nuclear membrane protein. Exciting new research avenues for nuclear envelopathies.
doi.org/10.7554/eLife.81573
Really exciting study! We also didn’t find any membrane protein components for extraction of the nuclear envelope protein SUN2 (ubiquitylated by SCF E3). We discussed that this could be due to redundancy or that pulling force by p97 alone is sufficient.

1/ New preprint out! We show that PROTAC-induced ubiquitination can bypass canonical ERAD to degrade ER membrane proteins. Wonderful collaboration w/ @DanNomura and huge credit to grad student superstar Sydney Tomlinson!

UK expensive visas - latest evidence:
- Cancer Research UK is expecting to spend £700k on visa costs each year - the equivalent cost of 17 new CRUK PhD students
- Cambridge cancer institute being outcompeted for specialists by institutes in Germany, due to costs

Today we are publishing evidence from our Institutes to show the impact of changes to the UK immigration system on cancer research.
We call on the new UK Government to reduce costs and review the system so it works for research - to meet their ambitions for health and growth.

Here's a preprint from the lab introducing 2 new active DUBs in humans & a unique type of DUB activity one would miss with the widely used panels of free ubiquitin chains.

Branched #ubiquitin has important roles in cell signaling but are very challenging to study due to complexity & lack of tools. We tackle this challenge in our latest study @NatureSMB developing a toolkit enabling discovery of molecular players and pathways
