An interesting release by ONS today on the characteristics of people testing positive recently. One noteworthy finding is that those who don't wear masks are around 50% more likely to test positive (after adjusting for other demographic factors, eg age). A short 🧵... 1/

My septuagenarian dad is walking from Avebury to Stonehenge, 26 miles for @cafod as part of the virtual London Marathon this year. Given I moan after I've walked for 26 minutes I couldn't be more impressed! If you want to support him #justgiving justgiving.com/fundraising/m…

Characteristically understated, and spot on. As ever.

I wish @BBCNews would stop with the ‘public health vs the economy’ false dichotomy. No PH professional wants restrictions to last longer than totally necessary but the last 15 months show us that acting late forces lockdowns, creates more economic damage and costs more lives.

This is a disaster. We have more than 50 flights from India daily. 77 cases of a really nasty India variant that affects younger people already here? Surge testing without isolation support. Contacts not being tested. This is a total shambles. We have learnt nothing after a year.

In the UK you can now get up to 10 years in prison for damaging a statue. The starting tariff for rape is 5 years in prison. Twenty police officers formed a protective ring around the #Churchill statue yesterday. What a pity the same protection isn't afforded to women.

#COVIDisAirborne Brilliant as ever from @trishgreenhalgh. Every employer must implement! In public-facing workplaces like shops, hairdressers, gyms (shortly to reopen) managers and staff need to watch this and implement revised Covid safety plans. Gov must update rules, now!

Hi Trisha, I hope all is well (trolls notwithstanding!). Currently working for DHSC on the evaluation of Covid testing and would love to talk to you about enlisting your independent brain power to the cause if you’d be willing? DM me? 🙏🙏🙏 @trishgreenhalgh

My job as an academic is not to tell people or govts or WHO what they want to hear but rather present the state of scientific knowledge, convey research findings from policy analysis in a clear way, & set out options so that leaders can make decisions.

I'm encouraged to see that work on an effective vaccine for #COVID19 #coronavirus is progressing so fast. It further supports the @WHO approach of maximum effort at containment - not the misguided UK Gov approach which has foolishly abandoned containment. theguardian.com/world/2020/m…

This is devastating and highlights the consequences of consistent under investment in the NHS and wider public services since 2010. Grim reading if you’re a kid, a woman, or anyone living outside London and the South East. It’s a Public Health crisis. instituteofhealthequity.org/…
Quite a venue for @DrChrisIrons' Compassionate Mind Training! @wills_memorial A privilege to spend last night in such amazing surroundings with a bunch of folk curious about the power of #compassion to transform their lives and those around them.
