Very chuffed to have been named as one of the winners of the Press 30 Under 30 Awards. From investigating the Iranian Embassy to uncovering a trade union boycott of Labour Women's Conference - it has been a busy year! Thanks @PressAwardsuk

Exc: A Houthi-controlled television station appears to have had a base in the UK for the last 12 years, Metro can reveal. Al-Masirah TV - run by the Iran backed militants - has operated a 'shell company' in London since 2014, according to Companies House documents. The channel is the main propaganda network for the Yemen-based Houthi rebel group which attacked King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia last week, killing 12 and injuring 300. The revelation has led to security warnings that the UK is exposing itself to Iranian threats and influence.

Exclusive: A toxic spill is polluting Britain’s waterways every 90 minutes this year, Metro can reveal. Water companies are set to record the highest number of toxic spills in at least a decade after strict new rules forced firms to declare all pollution incidents. More chemical spills and sewage discharges were recorded in the first seven months of this year than the whole of 2025 under the new tight regulations, according to data from an Environment Agencydatabase. Water companies could previously class some pollution incidents as having ‘no impact’, but from this year they have to record every spill that reaches a waterway.

Exclusive: Jeffrey Epstein's death was more consistent with an 'assault' than suicide, a top pathologist told Metro after reviewing the complete autopsy files. Michael Freeman pointed to fingernail marks which allegedly show Epstein tried to get the ligature off in 'potentially a struggle'. Dr Freeman teased his findings ahead of a bombshell talk at University College London next month. He has reached his conclusions after being given access to the complete medical examiner's file by Epstein's brother, Mark.

exc: Reform spelt their own party name wrong in a crucial Holborn and St Pancras by-election letter to voters. A campaign leaflet sent to locals in Camden this week only mentioned the party once by name, but called them 'Refrom'.

🚨🚨 Social media posts criticising Government policy are being monitored and logged by officials. Metro has obtained a list of 77 critical posts recorded by the Standards and Compliance Unit (StaCU), which oversees the Government’s Prevent programme. Established in 2024, StaCU is an “opaque” body set up to handle complaints about Prevent made on X and Reddit. But it appears officials are also scouring the internet for criticism of the programme. The posts include comments from ordinary people, many of whom would never expect Government officials to be monitoring their social media. A significant number were flagged for describing Prevent as “biased”. One X user made the list after calling its training “complete bullshit”. How can Britain claim to be a liberal democracy when officials monitor and log posts criticising Government policies and programmes? More than 62,000 people have been arrested for speech-related offences in the past five years, including over social media posts. Every day, Britain feels more like George Orwell’s 1984. And this may be just the beginning. Andy Burnham’s National Centre for Information Defence has been billed as a tool to counter information warfare from Russia. But he has also said it should address “counter-narratives” about Britain. That raises serious concerns about whether it could be used to target criticism of Government policy and its handling of issues such as mass, uncontrolled migration. As with so many secretive monitoring bodies, transparency is lacking. This revelation raises further questions about free speech, the right to protest and the right to criticise the Government. This is deeply chilling. Read more below 👇

Exclusive: Social media posts criticising government policy are being monitored and investigated by officials, Metro can reveal. X and Reddit posts from unsuspecting Britons attacking the UK's anti-terror programme Prevent were added to a database of online comments. Metro obtained a list of 77 critical posts found and logged by the Standards and Compliance Unit (StaCU), which monitors Prevent, between March 2024 and February 2025. The Home Office fought against releasing the database of logged posts for more than a year after a Freedom of Information request.

EXCL- The pro-trans protests that threatens to overshadow Burnham’s first Labour conference REVEALED… A protest outside the Women’s Conference on Saturday will be joined my Labour politicians and trade unionists from across the UK. The demo - against the ban on trans delegates - has been backed by the powerful trade unions council body in Liverpool. Leaflets picturing Burnham - seen by Metro - and criticising Labour will be distributed to attendees. Metro can also confirm that the Communication Workers Union is the fifth union to boycott the conference over the trans ban, following Unison, Aslef, Usdaw and Musicians Union.

Exclusive - Andy Burnham has been accused of ‘kowtowing to China’ by blocking democracy activists from fleeing Hong Kong to the UK. The Home Office is denying BNO visa applications from democracy protestors because they have convictions for riot from China’s ‘kangaroo courts’. Lawyers said they were aware of more than 10 activists whose visas were denied for the same reasons since Andy Burnham entered No 10. Two of them told Metro they felt ‘betrayed’ by the UK, which set up the BNO visa scheme to offer Hong Kongers a ‘safe and legal route’ to Britain. Priti Patel MP, the Home Secretary who set up the scheme, said: ‘Andy Burnham and Labour are kowtowing to China.’

EXC: Ministers have been warned that the Post Office is being used by Russian gang kingpins to launder their dirty cash. Post Offices have been identified by the National Crime Agency as a ‘key vector’ for money laundering and linked to 'hostile state actors'. The warning came in a briefing to senior ministers – exclusively attended by Metro – about the dirty cash fuelling the UK’s drug trade and other criminal activity.

Excl - Leaked Labour polling appears to show Zack Polanski is now viewed as weak, unpatriotic and untrustworthy by London voters. The internal polling suggests the Green Party leader’s personal ratings in the capital have fallen into the red since the beginning of the year. The new surveys - obtained by Metro - come as local Green Party members decide tonight who will be their candidate to stand in Holborn and St Pancras.
