Researchers from the Walker lab are looking at how paper birch trees are acclimatizing to changing environments through how they manage a vital plant process called photorespiration. buff.ly/4fE9lbn
Do plants fine-tune their enzymatic pathways to meet precise demands, or do they maintain extra capacity to handle unexpected metabolic shifts? Read about what we found here where we use photorespiration as a case study:

We used carbonyl sulfide as an innovative photosynthetic tracer to infer a global GPP of 157±8.5 Pg C/yr. We found a more productive tropics than current satellite-based GPP product suggested.

As I reflect on my PhD journey, I have a few favorite memories from my time as a graduate student that I wanted to share!
I was selected as a Future Academic Scholar of Teaching (FAST) fellow for the 23-24 year. During this year, I developed a teaching-as-research project focused on improving quantitative reasoning (both ability and confidence) in upper-level plant physiology students.
Excited to announce that I successfully defended my dissertation this afternoon and have graduated with my PhD in Plant Biology / Molecular Plant Sciences from MSU!
I am in love with this! Such a great tool for model-based teaching of photosynthesis

Super excited to share my first, first author paper of my PhD! It is a push for the community to invest in PTM discovery and characterization as much as a review on PTMs driving cell fate decisions during ER stress in A. thaliana! Hope you enjoy!
