ICAO lifts decade-long flight safety warnings on Libyan airspace In a major milestone for Libya’s civil aviation sector, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has officially lifted long-standing safety warnings regarding Libyan airspace. The announcement was made by Minister of Transportation Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, marking the end of a restrictive era that lasted over a decade. "Today, we announce an important decision by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to lift the previous warnings regarding aviation safety in our airspace—warnings that had been in place for over a decade, since 2013 and 2015," Minister Al-Shahoubi stated. The safety warnings, originally issued by the United Nations aviation agency following heightened conflict and infrastructure damage in the mid-2010s, severely restricted international commercial flights operating in and through Libyan airspace. The lifting of the warnings reflects significant progress in restoring operational standards, upgrading air traffic control and radar navigation systems, and aligning national airport safety protocols with global regulatory standards. Aviation authorities expect the decision to pave the way for increased international carrier connectivity, streamlined transit routes, and reduced operational costs for airlines across the region.

The Tripoli Security Directorate informs drivers and users of the Coastal Road that a partial, one direction closure will be in effect along a one-kilometer stretch—extending from the Souq Al-Thulatha (Tuesday Market) roundabout toward the Dhat Al-Emad Complex, up to the access point near Al-Jalaa Hospital. This closure will last from 7:00 PM today until 6:00 AM tomorrow, to allow the construction company to complete ongoing roadworks. Alternative routes will be available via Omar Al-Mukhtar Street. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, follow the instructions of traffic and emergency patrol officers, and adhere to all posted traffic signs in the area.

Trump seeks to pivot on Libya after backlash over disparaging remarks In response to the outcry from Libyan officials and citizens, US President Donald Trump issued a clarifying statement praising the Libyan people as "proud, resilient, and hospitable", highlighting the shared U.S.-Libyan success in defeating ISIS. Trump faced backlash after using crude language to describe Libya and other nations as "shithouse countries" during a political rally in Georgia. "We respect the Libyan people and the sacrifices that brave Libyans made fighting ISIS." He wrote on his own Truth Social platform. "The United States remains firmly committed to strengthening our bilateral relationship, supporting the long-awaited unification of Libya and Libya’s institutions, and standing with the Libyan people as they transition toward successful national elections. The Libyan people have been victims of terrorism and foreign meddling for years. I want them to unite, take back their sovereignty, and have the peaceful, prosperous future they deserve." He added.
