My @CBCNews interview with @andrewcbc about the Canadian Industry Minister's demand letter to #Stelco demanding it comply with its Investment Canada Act undertakings and threatening to ask a court to order Cleveland-Cliffs to divest its control of Stelco. cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.7…

I was not expecting this. I thought the algorithms would win. Maybe the courts won this time? Lula is 80, this time he better prepare a successor. There is no margin for error, any more. "Ordem e Progresso"🇧🇷
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva pulled off a dramatic comeback that hands him a fourth term in office with a narrow victory over rightwing challenger Flávio Bolsonaro, dealing a blow to Donald Trump’s aim of greater US influence in Latin America. ft.trib.al/B5TCZAN

"TThe Multilateral Defence Mechanism countries wanted to focus on joint #procurement, which was not a big part of the #DSRB. There were also disagreements over rules to determine which new members could join in future."🤔

"I heard he sang a good song I heard he had a style And so I came to see him To listen for a while And there he was, this [young boy] A stranger to my eyes Strummin' my pain with his fingers Singin' my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly..."

"Carney has long mused about a rupture with the U.S., well before his... Davos speech... The difficulty is that the Europe of Carney’s imagination is largely a figment. If it ever did exist, it has long since passed, with the Eurosceptic right coming to dominate the continent."🎯

"More worrisome for both sides is that the EU’s love affair with Canada seems more alleged than real, at least at this point... One senior @EU_Commission official [said] that the EU likes Mr. Carney more than it likes Canada and Mr. Carney will not be prime minister forever."🤔

"Another factor potentially working against Canada is social, electoral & economic upheaval in the EU... [The] Alternative for #Germany has emerged as Germany’s most popular party... In #France... Marine Le Pen is leading the polls ahead of next year’s presidential election."✅

“The Conservatives aim to double BC’s natural gas production by 2032. Several large facilities for exporting #LNG from BC’s coast to Asia are coming online and in development… Both Carney’s federal Liberals and the BC Conservatives will also be in sync on supporting #mining…”🤔

“In Canada… provinces have significant power over natural resource regulation [however] the Conservatives’ approach may cause friction with BC’s… Indigenous communities… That could lead to protests & lawsuits, and… tension with [some] members of Carney’s Liberal caucus.”🤔

“Though the BC Conservative Party hasn’t governed in its own right for a century, right-leaning parties with other names have — most recently the BC Liberal Party. Ahead of 2024’s election, it changed its name to BC United, collapsed, and was supplanted by the Conservatives.”

The blockade of the West Bank, the siege of Hebron, the expulsion of thousands from their homes there, & the demolition of buildings & houses are not only to serve Netanyahu’s fascist elections campaign, they’re primarily to implement his longstanding strategy of the ethnic cleansing and annexation of the West Bank. Israel’s criminality & cruelty know no bounds.
Hundreds of families have been in the street with nowhere to go since they were forced out of their homes by Netanyahu’s thugs in Al Khaleel

This is such a strange story and we are not going to be well-served by the typical parsimonious public disclosure from the 🇨🇦 authorities. If he breached a condition, the suspension may be justified. If this is just a response to a braying mob, it’s not. We need to know more.

I know up is down these days but serenading the UN for a position when you undermined the same institution and rejected the UN Panel of Experts’ findings on UAE links to the RSF to run cover for your government’s calamitous role in Sudan’s war is an outrage and an insult.
I've spent much of my life in and around the @UN. What stays with me most is its people: colleagues who, in the world's hardest places, deliver food and medicine, protect civilians and help parties take the first steps towards peace. The UN was never meant to agree with the world. It was built to help the world agree. This UN Day, I remain confident in what the United Nations can achieve - and in the future we can build when it acts early, supports its personnel, and measures success by what changes on the ground. #UNDay
