Instead, they view her body as ruined property that has humiliated the family, and they believe the only way to wash away that disgrace and fix their reputation in the community is to kill her. This is the exact nightmare that women like Gulnaz face, where marrying their rapist becomes the only way to stop their own fathers or brothers from executing them. How can Americans be asked to coexist with a culture that views the murder of a traumatized victim as a matter of family pride? How can a liberals claim to value human rights or progress while tolerating a mindset that treats a woman's survival as an insult to her family's honor?
