We sent information to staff and families tonight about the extra work we are doing to increase wellness in our buildings, and to keep students and staff safe upon their return to school.

- Using electrostatic backpack sprayers with CDC-approved cleaners to sanitize all surfaces - including desks, chairs, doors, etc. - Increasing the number of times high touch surfaces are sanitized each day. - Adjusting the HVAC units at each building to bring in more outside air

- Installing touchless paper towel dispensers. - Adding touchless hand sanitizer stations to high traffic areas in all buildings. - Installing plexiglass barriers at the front desk for all buildings. - Ordering face shields and masks for staff use.

While these actions provide additional safety measures, using face coverings and washing our hands frequently are the best ways to prevent the spread of any illness (including COVID-19).

We are preparing for the possibility of a positive COVID-19 case when schools re-open. We will work with @4YourHealthNRHD as they perform contact tracing for any positive COVID-19 cases in our area.

How is a contact defined? You must be within 6 feet of a COVID positive person, for longer than 15 minutes, without a face covering. By using a mask and social distancing, a student or staff member would not be considered a COVID contact based on school attendance.

As a community, we can work together to keep our staff and students healthy and well. One additional measure to keep our buildings well is to stay at home when we are sick.

Students or staff members experiencing a fever over 100.4, unexplained cough, or unexplained shortness of breath will be evaluated by the school nurse and asked to return home. Students and staff should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to the school building.

Another option for public address is virtual comment, and instructions on how to submit virtual comments will be provided in the meeting agenda. The meeting will be available to the public through livestream at mcps.org/youtube.

The Montgomery County School Board will meet on Tuesday, August 4, at 6 p.m. The entire meeting will be livestreamed at mcps.org/youtube.
