The Celestial #Guardians and the Riddle of the Sphinx: The Four Pillars at the Gates of Paradise The cute, harp-playing innocent angels we so often see in artistic depictions are merely a veil hiding a much deeper, profound truth rooted in history and mythology. The Cherubim guarding the gates of Paradise are far more than soft-winged children; they are those mighty, eternal guardians standing at the monumental gates of Assyria, Egypt, and Ancient Greece. And these magnificent beings are not carved into stone alone—they are written into the very language of the firmament directly above us. The Four Pillars of the Sky and the Fixed Signs of the Zodiac The Book of Genesis tells us that God placed Cherubim at the east of the Garden, along with "a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life." Centuries later, the Prophet Ezekiel encountered this majestic vision by the River Chebar: four living creatures, each with four faces—a human, a lion, an ox, and an eagle—accompanied by wheel-within-wheels covered in eyes, turning as they moved. And he understood the profound reality: "I knew that they were cherubim." When we turn our eyes to the map of the Zodiac, the cosmic geometry revealed is breathtaking: The Ox: Taurus. The Lion: Leo. The Eagle: The higher, transformative form of Scorpio (in esoteric astrology, the evolved state of Scorpio is symbolized by the Eagle). The Human: Aquarius. These four signs are the Four Fixed Signs, the foundational pillars holding up the cosmos. When we travel to Mesopotamia, to the palace gates of Nimrud and Khorsabad in Assyria, we find them as Lamassu: the head of a human, the body of a bull or a lion, and the wings of an eagle. All the attributes of the Four Fixed Signs unite in a single Guardian. The Akkadians called these protective spirits "karibu," whispering that the origin of the word "cherub" is anchored directly in this esoteric heritage. Traveling to the sun-drenched sands of Egypt, we encounter the Great Sphinx—with the body of a lion and the head of a human—facing due east, the exact esoteric location where the Cherubim were stationed. In Greece, we find the Sphinx of Thebes, bearing the face of a woman, the body of a lion, and the wings of an eagle. She guarded the road to the city with a single riddle, devouring anyone who failed until Oedipus provided the ultimate answer: "Man." The key to all cosmic secrets lies right here. The answer to every Guardian's question is YOU. This is why the timeless command was carved into the entrance of the Temple of Delphi: "Know Thyself." The Great Age, Equinoxes, and the Flaming Sword And what of the "flaming sword flashing back and forth in every direction" mentioned in the text? This is the equinoctial Sun slipping backward through the Zodiac during the Great Year cycle—a monumental cosmic clock spanning approximately 26,000 years. The Fixed Signs mark the four corners of this vast wheel. When equinoxes and solstices lock into all four simultaneously, they form the Fixed Cross. This alignment occurred in the Age of Leo (circa 10,500 BCE), the era of the Younger Dryas cataclysm, which many researchers believe was the period when the Sphinx was carved to gaze directly at the rising Leo on the vernal equinox. It occurred in the Age of Taurus (circa 4000–2000 BCE), when Persia’s four Royal Stars —Aldebaran, Regulus, Antares, and Fomalhaut — were revered as the Watchers of the Sky. And it occurs once more in the Age of Aquarius, which, according to esoteric calculations, began around 2170. The Guardians are returning to their posts. The Temple Within and the Powers of Eliphas Levi Yet, these guardians do not merely reside in the skies or upon temple walls; they represent your own inner anatomy: Taurus: The stillness of the physical body, the discipline of desires, and mastery through silence. Leo: The pure courage of the heart and the blazing fire of will and passion.++
