Во врска со бегството на Ива Михајлова во Бугарија и нејзиниот прием на високо ниво во Софија, Министерството за надворешни работи и надворешна трговија укажува дека ваквото постапување на бугарските државни институции ги подрива напорите што ги вложуваме за градење доверба и е спротивно на декларираните заложби за развој на добрососедските односи.
Приемот на високо ниво на лице против кое се води судска постапка испраќа сериозно погрешна порака. Националната припадност и поседувањето друго државјанство не смеат да служат како заштита од одговорност пред надлежните институции. Секој има право на правично судење. Никој нема право на изземање од законите.
Од Република Бугарија, како членка на Европската Унија, очекуваме постапување во согласност со основните европски принципи: почитување на судските постапки, соработка меѓу надлежните институции и еднаквост пред законот. Постапките што создаваат впечаток на институционална заштита од судска одговорност се неспоиви со тие принципи. Владеењето на правото не смее да биде селективно, ниту да зависи од националната припадност на поединецот.
За развојот на случајот, Министерството за надворешни работи и надворешна трговија ќе ги информира меѓународните партнери, особено институциите на Европската Унија и Советот на Европа. Ваквите постапки, за кои постојат и претходни примери, директно ја нарушуваат довербата меѓу двете држави и отвораат сериозни прашања за доследноста во почитувањето на заедничките европски вредности.
Остануваме посветени на развојот на добрососедските односи, засновани врз меѓусебно почитување, доверба и европски принципи. Истата одговорност ја очекуваме и од бугарската страна.
Почитувањето на правдата не е прашање на политички избор, туку основна европска обврска.
