And one London could do with looking at, given the state of its river crossings!
On All Souls’ Day the Rochester Bridge Trust holds a traditional service to remember its founders, Sir John de Cobham and Sir Robert Knolles, who established the charity in 1399 following the collapse of Rochester’s Roman bridge. A remarkable tradition revived in 1990.

Call me a sentimental old sausage, if you must, but I think what makes this clip so special is the evidently warm, friendly work environment it discloses. If these people, in front of camera and behind, didn't enjoy making TV together, you simply wouldn't have a moment like this. – at Cardiff, Wales

So here's a weird thing. I found a wallet on the road on Tuesday. I was cycling so I saw it, other people driving will just zoom past. I've tried pretty hard to get it back to the owner. But their Driving Licence address is to a rented home that they don't live at any more,...

We are expected to believe that Labour MPs are going to support this, or that it will ever be carried out by a Labour PM and Chancellor.
Here's the real story of this Budget, the can being kicked down the road. This Labour government is apparently planning spending cuts on most areas of public service spending of 2.6% per year between 2028-29 and 2031-32. Pull the other one. It's got bells on.

This is unbelievably grim.
UK new minimum wage: £27,456 per year. Higher-rate tax bracket: £50,270. 1.8x difference. In 1997 there was a 5x difference. Mind boggling.

May be wrong but I think that might be the first time John Healey has said — as CX — that defence spending will hit 3% in 2030 He says spending review will have details of hitting "3.5% of GDP on defence by 2035, with a target date for 3% in 2030" Burnham said similar this week

My favourite reply, although there are many, many treasures: "Nothing brings awareness to Dwarfism like shining lights on really tall things."
Tonight, Cardiff Castle will light up green to mark Dwarfism Awareness Day. 💚 The illumination celebrates diversity and helps raise awareness and understanding of dwarfism. orlo.uk/S4Qel

Best anecdote in Carol Thatcher's book about her father is when Sir Denis boarded a train at Paddington in which the only empty compartment was reserved for Rosewood Psychiatric Hospital. Denis travelled alone and in comfort as far as Reading when "all these chaps piled in", accompanied by a male nurse, who counted them before the train moved off. 'One, two, three, four ... who are you?" "I'm the Prime Minister's husband." "Six, seven, eight, nine..."

Magnificent reporting and clear-eyed, thoughtful and thorough assessment of Mancheester City Council’s relationship and financial ties with Abu Dhabi. Resiting indulgence in hindsight and national political mischief making, this is the best account. manchestereveningnews.co.uk/…

BBC voxpopping travelling punters about the government's plan to crack down on the scourge of loudspeakers on trains – very welcome news – but is a vox popper more annoying than an out loud iPhunt person? Perhaps the next crackdown will be on vox popping? We can but dream.
