Took a photo this morning on the lawn of the Municipal Building in my little town of Maplewood, NJ, showing the Ukrainian flag (displayed for the past three years in support). As I left, I passed a woman who told me, “I’m here to take the same picture.”
I live in a great town.

I look forward to to hearing how the “blame NATO” camp explains this:
Russian President Vladimir Putin cited genetics to declare that Russians and Ukrainians are “one people” and reiterated his claim to Ukrainian territory, saying: “I think that it is not their territory but the historical territory of Russia.” wapo.st/48aZaZF
The MAGAs have an alternative reality in response to people pointing out that Pope Leo was engaged in an effort to bring about a humanitarian ceasefire -
"Melania's efforts caught the attention of the Pope". 🙄

Hounding her on the way to Friday prayer is pretty awful. The relentless targeting of this politician by the government and the Trump-captured media is disturbing.
Rep. Ilhan Omar is confronted with questions about her real name after a federal court filing identifies her by a different name matching that of her ex-husband.
"It's Ilhan Abdullahi Omar," the Minnesota Democrat tells Fox News Digital while entering a mosque for Friday prayers.
Federal prosecutors use the name "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi" in the filing, while sources familiar with an ongoing investigation challenge Omar's account.

The statement from the White House came as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops distanced itself from the gathering, emphasizing that the meeting was neither organized by nor affiliated with the conference...

NEW: The man who organized Thursday’s Oval Office prayer with 12 Catholic bishops resigned as a university dean in 2022 after faculty accused him of misrepresenting his education and called him a “con artist.”
A senior Vatican official told me the gathering was “a highly inappropriate meeting and an insult to Pope Leo.”
Archbishop Paul Coakley, president of the U.S. bishops’ conference, was “deeply frustrated” by the meeting, a source close to him told The Pillar. thelettersfromleo.com/p/heri…

In March 2003 Pope John Paul II sent his envoy, Archbishop Laghi, to the Oval Office to implore Pres Bush not to invade Iraq. Bush put the letter aside w/o reading it and asked +Laghi to pray with him.
+Laghi responded: "I prayed before I came here."
What's actually going on in Ukraine is that Vladimir Putin covets control of its people.
"Cathleen Kaveny, a professor of law and theology at Boston College, told NCR that the bishops' appearance alongside Trump so close to the midterm elections was 'a highly imprudent act. ... This looks like it's a calculated political act and endorsement'"

Putin on Ukraine:
The lands lost by Kyiv are not "their territory"; they are historically Russian lands.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Kyiv predates Moscow by centuries, and southern/eastern Ukraine was ruled by the Cossack Hetmanate and Crimean Khanate long before 18th-century Russian Imperial annexation. In 1991, every Ukrainian region voted overwhelmingly for independence, recognized by Russia 1994.

No mention of the fear of NATO expansion as Putin explores why he invaded and annexed Ukrainian territory.

This is the image Trump wants from a papal visit. And this is a reason Pope Leo won't come while Trump is in the Oval Office.
I think the next frontier in defamation law should be against the use of "A.I." fakes of politicians in political advertisements. They are knowingly false, and therefore meet the "actual malice" standard in 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘷. 𝘚𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘯.
