Mumbai’s mobility ecosystem is going multimodal! ▪️Mumbai One already integrates 11 public transport operators. ▪️Autos, taxis, shared autos & ride-hailing services to be integrated within 6 months. ▪️Flight bookings planned in the next phase. A major step towards seamless, end-to-end connectivity across Mumbai’s transport network. @DrSanMukherjee
From Metro, rail and bus services to autos, taxis and the last mile, and eventually to air travel, Mumbai One is set to make journeys increasingly connected. Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, and Chairman, Maha Mumbai Metro has announced the next phase of expansion of Mumbai One, India’s first common mobility app, developed by MMRDA. Already bringing 11 public transport operators onto one platform, Mumbai One is set to integrate autos, taxis, shared autos and ride-hailing services within six months, with flight bookings also in the pipeline. The vision is clear: make journeys across transport modes simpler, more connected and more seamless. As this week’s #SundayMusings reflects, the future of mobility lies in making the entire journey work as one. Good to see Mumbai's public transport finally getting integrated into one seamless network. Tracking everything from a single app makes daily commuting so much simpler.
#SundayMusings Mumbai One: One Journey, One Door. A passenger does not ask who built the corridor or which agency runs the service. They ask simpler questions: whether the next leg is there, whether the ticket will work, whether the transfer will take longer than the ride itself.

A strong governance perspective in this edition of #SundayMusings. The challenge is to make infrastructure delivery, inter-agency coordination and digital integration work towards one outcome: a more seamless journey for every passenger.
Replying to @DrSanMukherjee
Ownership is an administrative fact. Seamlessness is the only fact that matters to the journey. Connectivity in Mumbai is a system. The work of planning and execution is to find the gap and make the stitch. Earlier, the gaps were physical: a missing connection between two roads, an incomplete interchange, a corridor that stopped short of where people needed to go. Those stitches continue. But an equally important gap now lies between the passenger and the network that already exists. Different operators, tickets, applications and counters. The network is there. The path through it is not always visible, and the means of accessing it are not always the same. #MumbaiInMinutes is the name given to the effort to close that gap. It is not a single project. It is the discipline of treating the journey, not the road, railway, operator or agency, as the unit of design. Today, that requires digital infrastructure as much as concrete and steel. A faster Metro can still leave a passenger managing three tickets and two applications. A new road can still leave the last mile uncertain. The infrastructure may be complete. The journey may still be incomplete. The stitch now is often a common layer that allows the passenger to see and use the network as one system. That is why Mumbai One was built.

Digital transformation is not about getting everyone onto one app. It is about making public services available through the channels people already use. A smart move by MMRDA.

A transport network is built in corridors. Seamless mobility is built in the connections between them. As the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s transport network expands, the task is not just to build more infrastructure, but to make the entire journey easier to plan, access and complete. This calls for digital infrastructure that connects transport modes, operators and services into one integrated system. In this week’s #SundayMusings, Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, reflects on how physical and digital infrastructure are coming together to advance #MumbaiInMinutes, with Mumbai One putting this principle into practice: the passenger experiences one journey, and the network must work as one. #MumbaiOne #MMRDA #RebootingMumbai #ReshapingMMR #MumbaiInMinutes #DrSanjayMukherjee @CMOMaharashtra @Dev_Fadnavis @mieknathshinde @DrSanMukherjee @MMMOCL_Official @MahaDGIPR

In a fireside conversation at University College of London, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, outlined a proposed regional approach to heat and climate-risk management, drawing on global expertise to strengthen local action. Speaking with Prof. Mark Pelling, Professor of Risk and Disaster Reduction and Climate Governance Lead at UCL Grand Challenge of the Climate Crisis, he emphasised the need for coordinated action across the rapidly integrating Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Building on its Economic Master Plan approach, MMRDA envisages a heat-management action plan that can inform policy and guide implementation across stakeholders within its jurisdiction. Central to that vision are measurable outcomes and clear accountability; understanding what climate interventions deliver, assessing their impact and establishing responsibility for results. The dialogue brought MMRDA’s regional planning experience into an international exchange on climate resilience, with a practical focus: better protection for the people who live and work in MMR. #MMRDA #UCL #UniversityCollegeLondon #HeatRiskManagement #ClimateResilience #ReshapingMMR #ViksitMMR @Dev_Fadnavis @mieknathshinde @DrSanMukherjee

Mumbai’s challenges. Global expertise. A Centre of Excellence designed to turn knowledge into better lives. At University College London (UCL), Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, outlined a vision for the proposed Centre of Excellence: anticipate the region’s needs, assess the consequences of development and create solutions that other cities in the Global South can adopt. This is the first such engagement for an Indian metropolitan institution at the 200 year old UCL, one of the top 10 universities in the world. In a fireside conversation with Prof. Mark Pelling, Professor of Risk and Disaster Reduction and Climate Governance Lead at UCL Grand Challenge of the Climate Crisis, he placed a clear principle at the heart of that vision: “Nobody should be worse off.” That means examining what development delivers for environmental sustainability, health, commuting time and access to opportunity. It also means using research and technology to prepare for future demand before it becomes an everyday challenge. Held in London on 21 October, the dialogue celebrated the MMRDA–UCL MoU and explored the proposed Centre of Excellence involving MMRDA, UCL and Crossrail International. For MMRDA, the measure of this global collaboration is what it changes on the ground. #MMRDA #UCL #UniversityCollegeLondon #CentreOfExcellence #UrbanPlanning #ClimateResilience #MumbaiInMinutes #ReshapingMMR #ViksitMMR @Dev_Fadnavis @mieknathshinde @DrSanMukherjee

The conversation explored how #ArtificialIntelligence, satellite data and digital twins can strengthen urban planning and decision-making, with accountability, data privacy and inclusion remaining central to their application. A key focus was the proposed Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Climate-Resilient Urban Systems and Sustainable Urban and Regional Development. Building on the MMRDA–UCL– Crossrail International partnership, the initiative follows the exchange of an MoU on October 1, 2026 in the presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri @Dev_Fadnavis ji. The Centre aims to translate research and infrastructure expertise into practical solutions for the #MumbaiMetropolitanRegion and the wider Global South. (4/5)
