Instead, they’re being gradually moved into sea sanctuaries, with the process expected to take around 18 months.

When a young seal was spotted napping on a New Jersey road on Feb. 24, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center sent help.
“It seems this pup wasn’t successfully feeding herself, dropping back down to close to birth weight by the time she completed her 300+ mile marathon swim south from the pupping grounds in Canada and New England to New Jersey,” the Marine Mammal Stranding Center shared in an update.
The organization is now providing care to the seal, including nutritional support.

✨Did you know the world’s largest Marine Corps base is right here in California?
The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms plays a vital role in national defense while supporting local jobs and regional economies.
🪖 Last week, LCI’s Military Affairs team joined federal, state, local, Tribal, and military partners at the Desert Managers Group and Mojave Desert Sentinel Landscape convenings to advance coordinated solutions for military readiness and land use compatibility.
🌵 Spanning 3.5 million acres, the Mojave Desert Sentinel Landscape brings partners together to address shared challenges like incompatible development, infrastructure pressures, and environmental stressors — strengthening both military operations and surrounding communities.
🐢 At MCAGCC, the team visited the Tortoise Research and Captive Rearing Site (TRACRS), where the Marine Corps and partners are working to protect the threatened Mojave desert tortoise — an example of how conservation, community, and military priorities can align.

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center in #Brigantine reports the young seal found on #LBI on Christmas Day seems to be doing well despite suffering a nasty shark bite. If you come across one on the beach, give seals some space-150 ft to be exact!
So far this season, volunteers with the Marine Mammal Stranding Center have rescued a trio of stranded seals, one of which appears to have survived a shark attack. The center’s goal is to nurse the animals back to health and return them to the sea. ow.ly/1PNv50QtJTw
