School choice in Texas is a story of PROMISES KEPT! All the fear-mongering and misinformation about school choice is being exposed. I’m so thankful for @DonnaCampbellTX and the Senate Ed Committee for their work to create a program that is working as intended!

If we are serious about fixing the teacher pipeline, we need to ask why anyone that isn't far-left would subject themselves to the ideological hellhole that is university Schools of Education.
Great report. Education schools must be dismantled entirely to restore education’s true purpose. There is no viable path to internal reform; these institutions are built on premises antithetical to truth-seeking and intellectual rigor. Even the university leaders themselves know it!! Harvard President Lowell famously described his own school of education as “a kitten that ought to be drowned.”

With the 2025 PISA results showing a global decline in math and reading scores, an urgent question is how much of a role technology and technology oriented education played in this decline.
The PISA 2025 results are out today. Some quick insights. - The major story is very significant global decline. The last PISA study was in 2022, and saw big declines in reading and maths scores from 2018. Obviously the pandemic played a part. - But this 2025 round has seen further falls even from the 2022 lows! Things haven't gone back to normal post-pandemic - they've got worse. Every generation thinks the generation below is less smart - but this time they might be right!

We've been talking for years about the harm the excessive use of technology in the classroom has done. It's time to do something about it.
Education technology has proved inefficient in improving classroom instruction or student results. Texas should prohibit the use of 1-to-1 devices through 6th grade and prohibit the use of 1-to-1 devices for whole-class instruction.

The 89th #txlege mandated that all students must take a personal financial literacy course. The TX SBOE should reject materials including Critical Race Theory-adjacent curriculum and recommend curricula that teaches the principles of applied personal financial literacy instead.

Opponents of the new literature list are still confused about religion and culture. The Bible is the single most important book ever written and is necessary to understand world history, philosophy, art, and culture, especially the history and culture of the United States.

"We do not have a teacher shortage crisis. We have a teaching profession reputation crisis." Schools are struggling to find certified teachers and retain their current ones. The process of teaching the teachers must be addressed.

Your occasional reminder that "Bible-infused" is aimed only at discrediting Texas' curriculum. English is "Bible-infused" too: good samaritan, forbidden fruit, turn the other cheek, bite the dust, feet of clay, salt of the earth, fly in the ointment, et (many) al.

The Texas SBOE is finalizing a new reading list this week designed to strengthen literacy for Texas students. But the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts is pushing to lower literature standards in favor of a weaker, ideologically driven reading list.

TEKS are up for revision this month but some can still be improved: 👉TEKS that use Social Studies methods to push a social justice agenda 👉TEKS that inaccurately report history out of political correctness 👉TEKS with overly broad or vague objectives

Update: The SA New Express originally falsely reported that three-quarters of TEFA applicants were currently in private school based on misleading data from a disreputable organization. We explained why that was wrong. The data included over 50,000 applicants who were not enrolled in any school in the ‘24-25 school year, but were wrongly assumed to go to private school because they “did not go to public school.“ The SA News Express has updated their story. In attempt to save face, they are excluding tens of thousands of applicants in their analysis by limiting it to “school age children” so they can still get a big number (71%). But if you include all applicants, the data shows that less than 50% went to a private or homeschool in ‘24-25.
Nearly three in four applicants to Texas’ new voucher program are likely already enrolled in private or home school, new data shows. bit.ly/3P0qgwr

Great steps forward for Texas students: the Texas Education Agency's newly recommended required reading list includes a variety of age-appropriate literature packed with moral lessons. It ensures students are both well-read and building strong character.

The Texas State Board of Education will finalize the new social studies curriculum at a special meeting on Feb. 25. The proposed framework preserves the full chronological structure of how our nation's freedom was built rather than hand-picked ideological fragments.

Stealing some amazing data from the @EdunomicsLab. Their latest reports show how staffing in schools has continued to grow, even as enrollment has flatlined. That was the case in Texas until the last school year.

Other charts show what kinds of staff schools are hiring, and the lopsidedness towards district administration is extreme. Austin ISD has slashed their staff numbers, but the district admin continues to grow.

Along with Greek mythology and Shakespeare, the Bible is the most important source for understanding literature in the English language. The Bible is essential to understanding America’s history and the values of its great thinkers.
