Our Miss Mara Water Safari at Marataba is an incredible experience, providing a unique perspective on wildlife and the landscape. Our guests had a once-in-a-lifetime experience as they drifted along the Matlabas River and came across a pride of lions right next to the river!

The Southern Pride has new members!⁠ From nearly dwindling to only one adult lioness, they have now added yet another set of cubs to the pride with one of the younger lionesses giving birth to three little ones. This is incredible news for the Southern Pride!

Lion vs. porcupine! A young male #lion from the Eastern Pride had a standoff with a #porcupine. The lion's experience and the tenacious defensive nature of the porcupine allowed it to leave the encounter unharmed.⁠ #safariwildlife #africansafari #safari

What an incredible moment as we came across a breeding herd of elephants busy crossing the river. At the end of the herd, a female and her very young calf were crossing the river. At only 3-4 weeks old, this calf struggled but managed to make it across safely with mom close by!

Over the past few months, Rocky Ridge female has faced challenging times, losing her two cubs and defending her territory against imposing females. It's heartening to observe her resilience and rebound in this ever-changing world of leopard dynamics in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Some say male lions don't hunt, but here is a great example that debunks that myth. On this morning, we watched as one of the Nkuhlu Males stalked a kudu, and even though he was not successful, watching a big male #lion in full stalk mode was something to remember. #bigfive

The Nchila leopard has truly put himself on the map over the last 12 months having to contend with the likes of the Donga male and other large male leopards that roam the Kruger National Park.⁠ He has solidified himself in the east and has given us some memorable moments.⁠

Out on safari, one of the most unforgettable experiences is being in the presence of a male lion as it roars to assert its dominance. The call of the Marakele male lion rang through Marataba, echoing through the Waterberg mountains. "We were so close, we could feel it."

Observing some impala on the other side, the two females from the Kingfisher pride crossed the river and attempted to hunt. Despite coming up empty-handed, they called the cubs. Initially hesitant, the cubs eventually mustered up the courage to cross the river. #big5 #lion⁠

As our guests savoured their evening drinks along the Matlabas River at Marataba, these rhinos showed interest in the delightful snacks they had to offer. Out of curiosity, they approached the vehicle, giving the drinks table a good sniff before continuing on their way.
