A coaches job is to develop people
That's the secret to the great coaches
Their job isn't winning. That's an effect
Why? Obsessive focus on the outcome shifts your motivation & perspective. You stop seeing athletes as people & you treat them accordingly. They stop developing..

A great moment here in Icahn Stadium as longtime New Yorker and legendary middle-distance coach Frank Gagliano is honored in front of a crowd that included literally hundreds of former athletes he guided and coaches he mentored.
Gagliano’s six-decade coaching career began at Manhattan College and ended as the head coach of NJ-NY Track Club, producing dozens of Olympians and influencing many of today’s top coaches including Chris Miltenburg, Diljeet Taylor, and Vin Linanna.
