Underground Strategic Infrastructure is the future. Compute is just the beginning. @RomullusInfra

To paraphrase Letorneau, inventor of diesel construction machinery, AI is not to make small jobs easy, it's to make large jobs small.

Good summary. Governors will mandate “Bring Your Own New Capacity” for all powered land buyers. Siding with Data Centers is not good politically right now.
Voters want lower bills and only mandatory load flexibility does that.
Chamath & Elon back n forth laying out bear case for AI/DC boom… fascinating
Chips aren’t the bottleneck anymore. Power & cheap capital are…
Grid queues are jammed, hyoerscalers will feed themselves power first Ik the crunch, and 2027 we will see GPUs paid for but sitting idle… (waiting for power)
Stranded compute
On top of that.. debt mkts (per Elon) are shut down for anyone w/out but non AI revs.. most Neo clouds cannot say that 👀
Hindsight this is obvious.. but you see why Neoclouds funded with debt backed by there own GPUs are under pressure
OR .. developers without secured power/land and of course anyone with a bit maturity wall in 27 is fucked
Every month you wait on the grid = interest ⬆️ + aging chips
Many of the Neo clouds also promise perfect availability/uptime but if there are outages at all… oh man. Customers will walk or there will be HEAVY penalties
A good deal on paper can flip real fast.
Who does this look good for when power is the bottleneck…
Battery + storage components (faster grid hookups & bridge power)
On site generation like fuel cells & turbines
Transformers & switch gear
Owners of powered land
IG Hyperscalers of course
Energized megawatts & cheap capital. Whoever has those will set the terms
2027.. maybe a shakeout for neoclouds & tailwind for selling power.
Just interesting to read exchange below.. nothing new
Second renaissance age of discovery.
The idea that the law of space should fundamentally resemble the law of the sea is a midcentury idea keyed mostly to a tentative, early era of exploration.
Now, the criticality of zero-sum assets like Lagrange points and lunar ice for colonization, the importance of particular launch corridors for high throughput operations, and the highly national quality of LEO constellations suggest that technology will make holding "interplanetary territory" the more apt paradigm for how civilizations will compete and transact in this domain.
One of the reasons @RomullusInfra exists is because defence ministries around the world (understandably) prioritise the defence of their own assets and personnel.
IMHO they do not pay sufficient attention to counter value targets and civilians.
We believe that defence tech should include the protection of the economy and civilians that power the war machine. This is why Golden Dome exists. But Golden Dome can not and will not protect the interior from spider-head / golden lion style attacks on critical strategic infrastructure.
Elon Musk understands something that the political establishment desperately wants people to forget.
Government isn’t some magical institution that protects you from concentrated corporate power. It is concentrated power. And unlike corporations, it has the legal authority to use force against you.
Now imagine giving that power to a global government. One political hierarchy. Billions of people. No competing jurisdiction to escape to. No meaningful alternative when the people in charge decide your rights are inconvenient. That’s not progress. That’s the blueprint for the most terrifying monopoly in human history.
Look at what’s happening across Europe.
More authority concentrated in distant institutions. More regulatory power. More restrictions on speech. More decisions made by people ordinary citizens can barely hold accountable.
The answer has always been decentralization, private property, free markets, and the freedom to walk away.
Yet the political left keeps demanding more centralization, more bureaucracy, and more authority over ordinary people. And somehow they call that liberation.
What a fucking joke.
Replying to @Rothmus
Those who are opposed to corporations and favor government do not realize that government is simply the largest, most monopolistic corporation of all and it has a monopoly on violence.
infinite storage underground
someone should industrialise the process of placing materiel in the ground, starting with AI data centres and underground off-grid energy @RomullusInfra
FORTRESS: The Pentagon is preparing every major U.S. military base to survive 90 days without outside support — no civilian power grid, no global supply chains, no outside fuel or water.
The initiative, revealed in documents reviewed by Fox News Digital, envisions portable nuclear reactors, massive battery storage, and microgrids that can disconnect installations from civilian electricity entirely. Strategic reserves of munitions, fuel, critical minerals, and medical supplies would be stockpiled based on wartime consumption rates. Civilian factories are being pre-identified to shift to defense production during a crisis.
Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell put it bluntly: "Power is combat now. Without electricity, you lose communications, water, logistics, assembly lines and just basic military command structures."

It’s fitting that the late Bill Draper, a titan of VC, ended up at the top of this list, with @shv, and @TimDraper also made it into the top 10 with @DFJvc.
I wouldn't be surprised if @AdamDraper joined them in future with @BoostVC.
Truly a generational run.

GPUs are a very capital intensive asset class.
But most of the smaller neoclouds I see don't treat them like one.
Every cluster, every customer contract and every loan sits in the same company.
CoreWeave doesn't do it like that... it ACTUALLY does it right.
