I was thrilled that our Francisco Lindor was announced as the winner of the Roberto Clemente Award for his humanitarian service. True to his character, he went to visit my good friend Ethan Wilson, who was hospitalized and is recovering from brain surgery. metsinsider.mlblogs.com/fran…

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October, we applaud the work of organizations like our very own Joe Torre’s @SafeAtHomeFound, which reminds victims that they are not alone, violence is not their fault, and help is available. Read more about Joe's story below.

A wonderful tribute from @RaysBaseball standout Chandler Simpson to his father: “My dad is everything. He's why I am the man I am today, and he's exemplified work ethic and perseverance and grit throughout my whole life.” #Postseason

Rest in peace, big guy. Your impact on @BATcharity was immeasurable. Your humor was one of a kind, you helped save countless lives, and I’m incredibly grateful to have called you a friend and colleague over the years. You’ll be deeply missed.
We are saddened by the passing of 15-year Major League veteran and 6-time All-Star Sam McDowell. Nicknamed “Sudden Sam”, McDowell spent his first 11 seasons with Cleveland from 1961-71. The 6’5” lefty led the league in strikeouts five times, including 1965 when he racked up a career-high 325 Ks to go along with a league-leading 2.18 ERA. In 1970, McDowell won a career-high 20 games and struck out 304 batters in a career-high 305 innings and finished third in Cy Young Award voting. A Pittsburgh native, McDowell finished his career with the Pirates in 1975 after stints with the Giants and Yankees. His career totals included 141 wins and 2,453 strikeouts. During his post-playing career, McDowell worked as a Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Consultant and served on the Board of Directors for the Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T). He was 84 years old.

Roberto Clemente wasn’t just a hero to Puerto Rico but to all of us. He spoke on behalf of Latin American players and of people. He was the light at the end of the tunnel for all of us, and I’m here because of him. We should all understand that baseball goes beyond the sport we play.

Former New York Mets players, including some from the 2001 team, stopped by Ladder Company 25 in Manhattan on Tuesday. Thank you to Mets alumni David Wright, Todd Zeile, John Franco, Robin Ventura and Al Leiter for the visit! The Mets have a longstanding tradition of stopping by Department locations, especially in the 25 years since September 11th. #NeverForget
