We've released a new update to the WAVE accessibility tools with numerous improvements and bug fixes. This version now informs users that accessiBe and UserWay overlays may manipulate page content to suppress detection of accessibility errors.

This upcoming feature (that I'm tweeting about as I create) is inspired by the many times I've heard @briancoords complain about how hard it is to get to the frontend of a post from the #WordPress Block Editor.
In the upcoming version of QuickPost (the plugin), there'll be a new 'View Post' link as well (with preferences to turn it off if you don't like it), because it's way too many clicks right now to get to a new post. #WordPress

Pro tip: if a disclosure button toggles between "show more" to "show less" or similar, you don't need aria-expanded. The state is already indicated. (This comes up again and again in audits.) #ariaSerious #aria #webdev #a11y #tips

At #23NTC @evan_greer warned of the pitfalls of “tech solutionism” (tech solutions to structural problems.) This is a stark example: mental health services access is critical, but the answer will not come from for-profit companies that exploit vulnerable users.

Many nonprofits struggle with what to write online.
They want to keep a blog or share helpful info on social, but don't know what to say.
My advice is always the same.
Start by answering questions you get asked all the time.
This content solves a problem for your community.

One thing that keeps me up at night right now is the possibility that Twitter’s potential death spiral will coincide with a major regional/national/global crisis. For better or worse, Twitter is a crucial disaster comms tool, and we don’t have a replacement for it. 1/

Hey @Meetup (@meetup_support), you've been pretty quiet about using an accessibility overlay. As the co-org of an accessibility meetup group that relies heavily on your site, I want some answers.
May I suggest you check:

This is good I guess? But whatever this looks like: Own your content. Even if you post content here, make sure you own the original content and host it on your own website. If you don't have a website, now's a good time to make/get one.

Just a quick reminder. Whenever somebody gives you a feature to ship, consider saying something like…
“That sounds great. Can you tell me a little more about the problem this is intending to solve, who it solves it for and what other solutions you've considered?”

🤔 You know what's easier than making a PDF accessible?
🎉 Not making a PDF in the first place. 🎉

A big part of the problem is that social networks, with a big helping hand from Google itself, killed the Web. The closing of Google Reader was a signal of what was to come. There's no way today to do something like PageRank, because nobody links to or curates content anymore.

Did you notice that caniuse.com just rearranged the order of the browsers in columns? Feels like such a momentous occasion to me. Internet Explorer is no longer listed first. (And I won’t have to keep cropping it out of screenshots.)
