What a great question! I first got involved with #mindfulness from my master #opera teacher in Vienna, Austria, who introduced me to lot of tools for how to start to get my mind on my own side. When you sing, all of you is the instrument. So what you think is what you sing. (1/2)

@MurdockMusings Your #UNMUTE interview features quite a bit of discussion around mindfulness, and you lead the audience through a really great meditation exercise!
When did you first become involved with mindfulness, and has it been important in how you approach your art?
Michelle Sewell retweeted
#Mindfulness is vital to my art. As an artist, I'm mining my emotional experience of life and translating it into what I create. I've learned I need to be very grounded to do this type of expansive work and I'm still learning. I meditate, journal, and make sure to sweatdaily!(2/2)

But yes, I still stand by the sentiment that if we sacrifice our health for 'productivity' then often there's a big price to pay. I personally strive for #success that is when health and productivity are balanced and positively symbiotic.(2/2)
Next up - @MurdockMusings: When you chatted with us for #UNMUTE, you made a lot of really valid points about wellbeing, that the point of the #lockdown being to stay healthy, not to be productive.
Do you think this sentiment has really hit home in the arts & people you know?
This was such an interesting interview discussing the tv and media worlds during covid!

It was something I knew I wanted to do before I even started writing my first show #WHITEplay so I was excited to be able to experiment without any pressure.
Michelle Sewell retweeted
Yeah, I think we've had to spend more time with our brains and a lot of the coping mechanisms we've put in place have disappeared. Within the arts we're continuing to lose our industry everyday so that will take a toll.
Q3: @theKokoBrown When we chatted you made important points about artists' wellbeing during COVID, that you have to 'treat yourself like you would treat your best friend', and we couldn't agree more.
Do you think mental health is now more on people's radars in the arts? #UNMUTE
Michelle Sewell retweeted
Q4: @theKokoBrown We've also had the pleasure of watching another show of yours, Grey, which is BSL-integrated and excellently performed by yourself and @Sapphire_Joy.
Having made your work so accessible, do you have any tips for other artists who want to do this more? #UNMUTE
Michelle Sewell retweeted
Wow, these tips to #KeepTheMovementAccessible are brilliant! We agree that artists can take simple, inexpensive steps that make such a big difference for making work accessible.
Any artists taking notice, check out @theKokoBrown's excellent accessibility tips below
👇 #UNMUTE
There are loads of simple ways to make your work more accessible. I posted a few tips here: teapawt.net/theKokoBrown/status/12…
There are also loads of cheaper alternatives like making captions using PowerPoint and a monitor.
But mainly, THINK ABOUT $$$ FOR ACCESSIBILITY FROM THE BEGINNING

And finally, to end on a fairly nice one... (we hope!)
@theKokoBrown Have you seen or heard anything lately that has really inspired you?
Could be anything really- TV series, movies, docs, music, etc
#UNMUTE
Michelle Sewell retweeted
Yes definitely, #IMayDestroyYou is so powerful, and rightly making a lot of people's lists right now. We've really enjoyed what we've seen so far.
Some great poetry collections too! #UNMUTE
Well, obviously, #IMayDestroyYou by @MichaelaCoel is big inspiration for a lot of us right now.
I've also been reading The @breakbeatpoets Vol. 2: Black Girl Magic and re-reading #Nepantla which has an amazing selection of delicious poems.
