Love this quote. First read it in a piece by @visakanv. Made this video 16 months ago. Music isn't AI-generated. Everything else is. I used a combination of HeyGen, Eleven Labs, Runway, and Descript to piece this together. AI-generated video is improving quickly. If I remade this today the quality would be a lot higher. I'm excited for young people who have access to these tools today. When I was kid I had my miniDV camera, some friends and basic editing software (Windows Movie Maker -> iMovie -> Vegas Movie Studio -> Final Cut) to make little movies. I would have been ecstatic to have access to tools like this back then. The limit would have been my imagination (although probably would have poured money from my subway job into credits to use the tools lol). In the right hands AI can absolutely serve as a creative accelerant and not a replacement for creativity.

Shocking! 😐
“We have students who have experienced great success weaning off of their ADHD medication once enrolled into our school where play and nature are plentiful,” explained one public school teacher turned microschool founder: fee.org/articles/the-real-ad…

Out of respect to kids born after 2025, I will be referring to them as Generation Bravo instead of Generation Beta.

The idea that the “brain itself is a machine that produces consciousness” to me just seems like an outgrowth of the materialist religion instead of something validated by hard science.
David Chalmers says it is possible for an AI system to be conscious because the brain itself is a machine that produces consciousness, so we know this is possible in principle

I’ve spent a lot of time in confusion about what people mean when they say they want to change the world. it turns out that a lot of such people want the status associated with being a world-changer, hoping that status will bring a sense of love and acceptance and belonging

algorithms and legible paths suck the joy out of life career paths become highly legible and high schoolers plot out 10 years paths to the top the chances of slowly falling in love with the kind of work these paths offer is minimal because you are competed away by people aiming at the end goal movies become dry because everyone knows what "works" - eventually creative directors give in if they want to get paid too. Early creatives are uninspired and give up before trying Publishing targets a median reader and embraces a distribution strategy that undermines the internet. People sacrifice creativity to fit the mold, meeting the demands of people making $50k a year scraping by in a dying industry. People then complain about the books In today's world we have dying industries and algorithms sucking the joy out of things. The game theoretic path is to TAKE THE MONEY But it is never the right life path. You will regret it. Make the art. Be weird. Take chances. Play the long game.

Who remembers stumbleupon? I spent hours upon hours using it in high school. Was such a fun mode of discovery back then

Their attention becomes trained on extracting money from their life's precious moments. This turns family life into an operation done not for it's own sake but for its financial benefit. It ought to be a well of meaning. YT families commodify the sacred. Family becomes kayfabe.
