Watch: Local officials in Memphis, TN marvel that despite misinformation, SpaceX data center isn’t even one of the top 25 emitters in the area, and air quality around it is actually improving. Deputy Director of the Shelby County Health Department Kasia Smith-Alexander: “Over time, Shelby County has lowered emissions, which has resulted in cleaner air, fewer exceedances, and better protection for sensitive neighborhoods located near these industrial corridors.” “I know some of you are wondering, ‘where does xAI fit in this [list of top emitters]?’ They are 28th.” Councilwoman Yolanda Cooper-Sutton: “As you know - xAI, SpaceXAI has been the topic here in Memphis since their arrival. The concern with the population and with the constituents is air pollution. So once again, I’m stunned with what the deputy just shared with us. They are #28. They are not even top 5. I am not sure where all this misinformation is coming from.”
