How is it possible in 2026 that people can purchase speculative or fake tickets.
The technology already exists to prevent this.
Sport is meant to be for the fans
Cabinet members, deputy minister, and several political aides including a summer student received dozens of free passes to attend #FIFA World Cup:

Total cost of tournament to taxpayers: $1.07 billion.

StubHub's CEO has been scalping his own customers for years
Eric Baker is the CEO of StubHub and he also built Andro Capital on the side, a hedge fund that acquires tickets and sells them on StubHub
He also made sure Andro Capital got a better deal than every other seller on the platform:
• Andro Capital: $0 in seller fees (2024-2025)
• Everyone else: 20% commission
In 2023, StubHub ended a deal where Andro Capital had been operating as an inside ticket inventory partner and paid Andro Capital $1,600,000 to do it
He then created Colloquy Capital to finance other mass scalpers buying and flipping tickets on the same platform
The Texas AG, Consumer Protection BC, and two class-action lawsuits are all investigating

The World Cup ticket crisis is revealing exactly how little secondary marketplaces care about real fans.
The FIFA World Cup started over 2 weeks ago, and the StubHub horror stories still keep happening.
I knew better, but today we joined the thousands of peopled scammed by @StubHub today. the tickets never showed up, stubhub told me they were urgently working on it, never heard back and we ended up sitting outside the stadium with no tickets and no help @TeamStubHub
Having played professional sport, it is infuriating seeing fans spend their hard earned money only to get screwed by broken secondary ticketing platforms like StubHub.
Fans are the reason these moments exist.

Amazing product.
A family in New Jersey bought World Cup tickets on StubHub. The tickets vanished and customer service did nothing. Then NBC10 called on their behalf and the tickets magically reappeared.
So the system works great. You just need a news crew acting on your behalf.
The biggest moments are no longer priced for the fans who live and breathe the teams.
This seat in section 326 at Levi’s Stadium was $468 for tonight’s Algeria-Jordan World Cup game. It is listed at $4,488 for USA’s July 1 Round of 32 World Cup game at Levi’s Stadium on @TickPick.

But in 2026, people can still sell speculative tickets on StubHub and fans are left praying the transfer comes through.
Wild.

.@stubhub desperately needs to overhaul its policies.
These problems aren't new. They were just easier to overlook when only a few fans were affected at each event and complaints were spread out.
The World Cup, combined with skyrocketing ticket prices, has exposed the scale of the issue and shown why change can't wait any longer.

Hi @TeamStubHub I'm asking for your help with Order #630609597.
Back in December, I bought 5 tickets for my family to attend the World Cup Round of 16 match in Philadelphia on July 4. Since then, we've planned an entire family trip around this game and have already purchased flights and hotel reservations.
Over the past week, I've been told several different versions of what is happening with my tickets:
→ June 12: The seller didn't have the tickets and I would receive replacement options.
→ June 15: The seller was fine and my tickets would arrive soon.
→ June 16: The seller was unresponsive.
→ June 17: The tickets would arrive by July 1 because of FIFA restrictions.
→ June 19: The delivery date moved to July 3, and a manager acknowledged the seller's behavior appeared suspicious, but said nothing could be done until the day of the match.
I'm honestly scared we're being forced to wait until the very last minute only to find out the tickets aren't coming. Every day that passes leaves my family with fewer options.
I'm not asking for special treatment. I'm asking StubHub to help us before we're out of time.
