More than 40 percent of #postdocs leave academia. Those who landed a coveted faculty position were more likely to have had a highly cited paper, changed their research topic between their #PhD and postdoc, or moved abroad after receiving their doctorate. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.24… @PNASNews -> nature.com/articles/d41586-0… #ScienceCareer

With a new method we found that a RBA1 variant lacking 2', 3'-CAMP/cGMP synthetase activity but retaining NADase activity does not induce cell death but confers disease resistance.

Please do not forget to use pSOUP helper plasmid which is needed for replication of our PVX vector in Agrobacterium.

Arabidopsis MLKL1 (At1g64300) confers salt stress.
I assume that abiotic stresses in general would activate TIR NADases leading to MLKL activation. See the discussion in our latest manuscript (Shen and Hasegawa et al 2024 Cell H&M)

Wow!! One of Pm resistance genes encodes a plant MLKL, which is consistent with our earlier study (Mahdi et al 2020 cell host microbe)

We found that plant MLKLs confer TNL-triggered immunity in parallel with RPW8-type HeLo-domain-containing NLRs (RNLs). We also show that plant MLKLs are responsible for sustained [Ca2+]cyt influx during TNL-triggered, but not CNL-triggered, immunity.
A three-year PhD position on plant immunity is available in my lab. Interested? Experience with modern imaging technologies such confocal microscopy is plus.
Happy to share our new manuscript @cellhostmicrobe about the biochemical action of plant MLKL proteins!!
