Kevin Willard insulted a reporter and the rest of the Big 5. He and Villanova should be ashamed. | Mike Sielski inquirer.com/college-sports/…

As someone who has been chronicling Philly for nearly 20 years and has watched @PhillyInquirer go through many different cycles, I think they’ve finally hit the sweet spot. It’s become a must-have subscription, and their Instagram content is sooo good. They’ve finally embraced social media in a way that feels fresh, engaging and relevant.

LeBron James cannot be a true member of the #Sixers if he’s commuting from New York. He must live in Mount Airy, Queen Village, or in a tent on the beach in Wildwood. My column:

outrageous. media companies need to find a way to get info out faster than in print. perhaps a way to publish instantaneously, and in a manner that could be updated as news develops. and what if, someday, you could somehow get the articles without having to go to a newsstand?
This seemed so outrageous (even for the NYT) that I wanted to verify it I went and got a physical copy and took this photo The shooting was at 8:34pm ET on Saturday night Is this not enough time to get the story in print? If not, then how is this “news”?

RE: A.J. Brown being traded. Most everything I wrote in the below column stands a week later: - #Eagles are assessing the market - Their asking price is believed to be 1st and 2d round draft picks (as I’ve learned since, at a minimum, although the swap can have multiple moving pieces) - There is a general sense that a decision needs to come before the league year (a then there will be a reassessment after the team makes their initial moves in FA) - The Patriots are the most likely suitors (and are interested) The Bills trading for WR D.J. Moore may have altered Brown’s value, which some league executives had compared to draft compensation received in previous trades for Stefen Diggs and DK Metcalf (essentially a 2d rounder) The Eagles likely want something closer to what the Packers got from the Raiders for Devante Adams (a 1 and 2) several years ago, as @AlbertBreer and I spoke about on my most recent podcast audacy.com/podcast/uncoverin… We also spoke about A.J. Brown’s supposed unhappiness and how there is nuance to that topic. The Eagles don’t see that as great an issue as some outsiders. I still believe whatever apparent standoff the Eagles are having with the Pats about compensation could be resolved, especially if the Ravens, Chargers or Colts have legit interest. But the clock is ticking.

Shows the difference in incentives for journalists and creators. A journalist’s primary objective in an interview is to make news. A political influencer’s objective is to keep their audience on board and further their side’s agenda. Making news is kind of a bonus.
Obama: "Yes aliens are real." Interviewer: "Haha. OK, let's move onto the next topic."

Just a point of annoyance: Yeah, Nick Castellanos confirmed the beer-in-the-dugout story. But the real credit goes to @MattGelb, who had it & went to Castellanos & his agent for comment. Only then did Castellanos put it out there. Good reporting forced his hand. #Phillies

Rich is super talented. I’ve read his content for years, most recently every morning with his must-read newsletter. More than being an excellent writer and intrepid reporter, he’s a total professional and any outlet would be lucky to have him on staff.
Replying to @rich_hofmann
So, what's next? Dunno, I got a little time to figure it out. I do have one idea, though: What if I kept doing the same newsletter independently? Who knows, it might even be better. If that's something you might be interested in, drop your email here 👇 forms.gle/tThExie8pQb281Q19
