I taught Lorraine to shoot during the summer of 1925. First with a little 22 Colt pump gun I gave her, then I graduated her to a 45 single action with full loads, and finally to the 1903 Springfield service rifle. She did very well with all three. “Hell, I Was There” (1979)

In brush and timber hunting, for quick snap shooting at running game, I’ve preferred double barrel rifles to any other type. They are short enough and have a great balance, and for those two shots, are just as quick as an automatic. “Big Game Rifles and Cartridges” (1936)

Double barreled rifles seem to me to come up to the shoulder and swing onto moving game faster and smoother than any other type of arm, likely because I’m so used to double barreled shotgun shooting since I was a small boy.

I prefer the hammerless double barrels as cocking two separate hammers takes too long.

They've changed but are still an excellent big game bullet. I've taken elk, grizzly and more with them. This 200 grain Partition was fired into a grizzly at short range using my 30-06. Front section is peeled back with most of the lead gone, rear section penetrated deep.

When I was a boy, ladies went in for muffs rather than hand bags. When they carried pistols, it was usually a small short gun concealed in the muff. “Sixguns” (1961)

Some gamblers used Remington Double Derringers carried in holsters strapped to their wrists under their long coat sleeves. Some carried Derringers in their vest pockets.

Then Prince Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, with a Wildey Magnum pistol, made for him personally by Wildey Moore. The then Prince is a known gun enthusiast and ordered pistols regularly from Moore.

Long considered the Westley Richards hand-detachable boxlock double rifle with ejectors and single trigger to be the finest of all double gun actions. The lock only has 7 parts compared to over 20 in a side lock. “Gun Notes” (February 1973)

The frame allows for much more wood to steel contact. The hinged cover allows for easy oiling and cleaning should you drop your gun in water. I have never seen one of these guns get loose or shaky, they’re as tight as can be.

Best places to shoot to drop a bear as soon as possible. Base of the ear or in shoulders in line with the spine always worked well. “Elmer Keith’s Big Game Hunting” (1948)

That's an 1866 Trapdoor in 50-70 below that bill....(original cartridge at right) I'd wager the 50-70 killed more western game than most.....

The ranch on North Fork was a good place for finding winter meat. Shot this little 2 point buck at 400 yards with a 334 OKH. “Hell, I Was There” (1979)
