It's exciting to see so many robust discussions about NOAA's new RRFS model. To help communicate what it is, how it works, and its future, GSL developed a brand-new webpage, just launched today. I hope that gsl.noaa.gov/rrfs will be a helpful resource for years to come

My *personal* thoughts on RRFS: 1. Current framework is unsustainable. Running multiple modeling systems drains NWS resources, limiting R2O. Consolidation was inevitable. 2. Initial transition probably will help some forecasting capabilities. Others, maybe less so. 1/

3. Physics upgrades have improved RRFS very recently 4. It operationalizes sorely-needed fire and smoke/dust applications 5. MPAS-RRFS (v2) is the first model to outperform HRRR in testbeds, and better physics, JEDI, and satellite DA should make it even better in the next year 2/

6. Expect a ton of info on RRFS to be communicated by NWS and GSL help with the adjustment. 7. HRRR isn't going away yet. 8. Transitioning to the RRFS framework should open many doors to integrate latest research and technological advancements. 3/3

As part of @POTUS’ Investing in America agenda, this funding will help increase lead times for fire weather warnings, speed detection of fire starts, & provide more real-time actionable information to prevent wildfires & keep communities safe. noaa.gov/news-release/biden-…

They said, no doubt! Coach loves coming out and meeting people in town after games. And they showed us on their phones a place that was one of his favorites. So it was set that our mission for the rest of the night was to find Mike Leach on the streets of Pullman. 6/

We walked across town to the spot we were shown. It was busy, and we asked a bartender if Coach might be around. She said he comes by all the time, but never after games when it was this busy. But, there’s another place. 7/

Modern natural disasters occur at the intersection of natural events and human decisions. A high-end hurricane landfalling near a metro area of 760k that constructed 400+ miles of shallow canals at the wide mouth of a river is certainly an example.
