The Fallen, a Western Drama by Rita Lewis has one more performance today at 3 pm. I have been blessed by an amazing cast, talented, compassionate and collaborative who have helped build this play into something truly unique and compelling. AND IT'S A WESTERN. This cast is a dream cast, no ego, all just wanting to go deep and do great work. The rehearsals for this play were magical, as we all worked together with playwright Rita Lewis to make the script concise, create big, beautiful moments on the stage and embody this amazing Western World. I will miss watching this play everynight for the work has gotten deeper, and richer and so so exciting. And all created for Rita Lewis dared to write a Western. We were also blessed with our awesome P.A. Chelsea Bolles who was a huge support for all, and the amazing Verena Lee who ran the sound and lights, which we tweaked every night to be as close to perfection as possible, because that's what you do! And thank you to my partner, Jennifer Pierro, for her support through the wild and complicated process of bringing this play to life! All I can say again and again to this cast and creative team is Thank you for going on this wild Western ride. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I have never had such an incredible experience like this! Thank you all, and BRAVO and BRAVA! May we all work together again! Come see The Fallen before it is too late. 3 pm today is the last performance. What can I say about the amazing Chelsea Clark? In the Fallen, she plays the quintessential Western mother and wife and she does it with quiet and deep compassion. Cameron Parker, who is a newcomer to a Manhattan Rep play, is just delightful and funny as the boy who works in the General Store in town. Lots of surprizes in this scene due the wonderful writing of Playwright Rita Lewis. The Fallen closes tomorrow after our Sunday matinee at 3 pm. Tonight we perform at 7 pm. Chain Theatre, 312 West 36th St. Tickets can be found at: manhattanrep.com/ #playwriting #plays #drama #comedy #writing #stage #play #betterway #fun #manhattanrep #success #Playwrights #producers #actors #kenwolf #NewYorkCity

Gabriella Russo, John Sarno and Jessica Luhmann share the stage in this pivotal scene where drunken Joseph gets involved in a saloon brawl, and his daughter Sarah takes him back home, where in his drunken stupor, he freaks out and reveals the story for his wife's death, with the help of Lily, the young girl he helped in the prairie. Gabriella Russo is a powerful woman, as is Lily now, and they do some Wild Western magic with Joseph to set him straight. The Fallen by Rita Lewis, closes on Sunday October 25th. It is worth a journey to see this beautiful play, performed so brilliantly by this incredible cast of 7 super talented actors. Get your tickets here: manhattanrep.com/ There's a storm brewing. Don't miss this. #play #Western #ManhattanRep #TheFallen #dramaticfun

This is from one of the Prairie scenes where Joseph Adams (John Sarno) and Preacher Henry Nash (Max Avery-Lichenstein) go at it in true cowboy fashion. Each of these actors are consummate actors and this scene is always fun and so alive. Please come check out this awesome WESTERN play. It is dark, and disturbing, suspenseful and uplifting. I am so proud of the work this cast and creative team did on this play. And Playwright Rita Lews has written a stunning and exciting play. We close on Sunday October 25th after the 3 pm show. I am so excited about the work these amazing actors are doing in this classic WESTERN play THE FALLEN written by Rita Lewis. So far we are getting GREAT reviews and the show is going well. This picture is from my favorite scene in the play. Joseph Adams (John Sarno) has abandoned the real world and has been living a drunken and lonely life on the Prairie. Pregnant, 17 Year old, Lily Nash, (Jessica Luhmann) has run away from home to save her life and the life of her baby. Lost on her way to a convent for safe haven, she comes upon drunken Joseph. This scene is so live, it breathes, it is fun and so sad, and it also has some excting Western action in it too. The sounds of the praire fills the theatre in soft colored light and John and Jessica do their simple and beautiful magic together. So exciting and so much fun! The Fallen by Rita is playing until next Sunday October 25th at Chain Theatre, 312 West 36th St. New York City. The work is gorgeous and action-packed, and you will see how it relates to the WILD WEST currently inhabiting Manhattan. I am so proud of the work these fine actors are doing. (The rest of the cast: Max Avery-Litchenstein, Gabriella Russo, Chelsea Clark, Nathan Cusson, and Cameron Parker.) It is truly remarkable. PLAYWRITING IS A LITTLE LIKE RIDING A WILD HORSE. You can have a plan, but occasionally the thing decides it has ideas of its own. Your characters surprise you. A scene changes direction. A tiny character suddenly becomes incredibly important. Do not fight every surprise. Sometimes the unexpected turn is where the MAGIC is hiding. Hold on, stay curious, and see where your imagination takes you. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #Creativity #Theatre #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

DO YOU HAVE A PLAY THAT NEEDS RESCUING? Maybe the first act works beautifully, but the second act has disappeared into the wilderness. Maybe your climax is not big enough. Maybe your characters are talking when they should be DOING. Do not abandon the wagon. Your play may be much closer to working than you think. Sometimes one strong creative decision can change the entire journey. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #Rewrite #PlayDevelopment #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

GIVE YOUR CHARACTERS SOME TROUBLE. Then give them MORE. A peaceful little frontier town might be a lovely place to live, but it could make for a pretty boring play. Something has to happen. Someone has to want something. Someone has to get in the way. Do not protect your characters. Challenge them. Surprise them. Force them to make difficult choices. Trouble is one of a playwright’s greatest creative tools. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #PlaywritingTips #Drama #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

WHAT IS WAITING BEYOND THE HORIZON FOR YOUR PLAY? You will never know if you leave it sitting unfinished on your computer. There may be characters you have not discovered yet, scenes you have not imagined, and theatrical moments that could someday move an entire audience. Ride toward them. Write something today. Even one scene can take you somewhere unexpected. That is the adventure of being a playwright. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #Creativity #NewPlay #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

EVERY GREAT WESTERN NEEDS A SHOWDOWN. SO DOES A GREAT PLAY. Your characters want things. Eventually those wants collide. Someone has to make a choice. Someone has to take action. And somebody may discover that getting what they wanted comes with a price. Build toward that confrontation. Escalate the stakes. Make your characters earn their ending. That is when writing gets REALLY FUN. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #Drama #WriteYourPlay #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

STOP WAITING FOR THE STAGECOACH TO COME PICK UP YOUR PLAY. Sometimes you have to create your own ride. Write your play. Rewrite it. Hear it with actors. Learn how to direct. Learn how to produce. Explore production. There are more ways to move your work forward than you may realize. You do not always have to wait for somebody else to discover you. Sometimes the greatest creative adventure begins when YOU decide to make something happen. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #GetProduced #MakeTheatre #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

THERE IS GOLD HIDING INSIDE YOUR PLAY. Sometimes you have to dig for it. Maybe it is a character you have not fully explored. Maybe it is a relationship that needs more conflict. Maybe the real story is hiding underneath the story you thought you were writing. Keep digging. Keep exploring. Keep asking questions. Because one discovery can suddenly change EVERYTHING about your play. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #Creativity #WriteYourPlay #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

EVER FEEL LIKE YOUR PLAY HAS WANDERED OFF THE TRAIL? It happens. You started with a great idea, but somewhere around page 37 your characters took a left turn and now you have absolutely no idea where everybody is going. That does not mean the play is broken. It means it is time to find the trail again. Sometimes another experienced creative mind can help you see the simple solution that has been hiding right in front of you. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #Rewrite #ScriptDevelopment #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

YOUR CHARACTERS JUST WALKED INTO A SALOON. NOW WHAT HAPPENS? Someone wants something. Somebody else gets in the way. A secret gets revealed. A stranger walks through the door. Suddenly everybody in the room has a problem. THAT is where a play starts getting exciting. Create action. Create consequences. Keep escalating the problem. You do not need a gunfight to create a showdown. Sometimes two people sitting across a table can create all the dramatic fireworks you need. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #Drama #PlaywritingTips #KenWolf #ManhattanRep

EVER FEEL LIKE YOU ARE RIDING THROUGH THE WILDERNESS WITH YOUR PLAY? You have a destination somewhere in the distance, but you are not completely sure how you are going to get there. Welcome to playwriting. Sometimes discovering the trail is part of the adventure. You do not need every answer before you start. You need a character, a problem, some action, and the courage to keep riding forward. If you need a guide along the way, I would love to help. manhattanrep.com/playwright LISTEN TO THE PLAYWRITING PODCAST WITH KEN WOLF howtowriteplays.com/ #Playwriting #Playwright #Creativity #NewPlay #KenWolf #ManhattanRep
