The Bomas International Convention Complex has reportedly gone over budget by more than Sh13 billion, from the Sh31.7 billion Cabinet approved in August 2023 to Sh45.1 billion.
The Standard reports the jump came as the scope widened to include five-star hotels and a shopping mall, to be run by private investors on long-term leases.
The Treasury has reportedly directed that Sh4.5 billion a year be ring-fenced from tourism levies for the project, which would total Sh45 billion over 10 years.
The contract has also changed hands. Turkish firm Summa won the 2023 tender, but China Road and Bridge Corporation now holds the current Sh41.9 billion contract.
Senators are now demanding procurement documents and clarity on who is responsible for what.

@ntsa_kenya speed limit is a scam. They should send data captured with limit warning violated because most areas they have indicated speed violations don't even have signage warning motorists. It's a tax collection rather than enforcement initiative. Police collect bribes daily.
