Aren’t there a lot more people in Edmonton and Calgary than Grand Prairie? What would that say about the dominant values of our province?
I am appalled at you Edmonton and Calgary folks. Absolutely appalled. You are not Albertans. Why don't you move East where it aligns with your values more?

This is so perfect. Honestly, I thought "Tommy" was a plant by the way he walked off at the end. Abdul El-Sayed just looks too good here. But after looking it up, I learned he was a former Josh Hawley staffer. This is the most inspiring performance by an American politician that I can remember seeing. El-Sayed was faced with a bigoted question. He didn't hide from it or pander. He broke down why it was a bigoted question, and gave a stirring defense of American principles and the Constitution. At the end, his interlocutor wouldn't condemn Christian Nationalism! El-Sayed has a perfect response to this, and "everybody clapped." A lot of us have had this experience of arguing with right-wingers, questioning them, and then finding out that they have no principles, they're just bigots. A Hawley staffer will talk about the US Constitution and freedom of religion to attack a Muslim politician, and sing a completely different tune when it comes to Christian fundamentalists. Again, the "everybody clapped" nature of this, followed by Tommy walking off in shame, made me think that he was a plant. But no. This was a real-life rightoid, getting exposed as the hateful, hypocritical bigot that he is in front of the entire world. Abdul El-Sayed's rise in American politics has made me a lot more optimistic about our future.
This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

Telling on themselves again.
Pete Hoekstra, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, is warning Canadian politicians to stay out of American politics, saying officials are monitoring potential “political interference in the U.S. midterms.” 🔗ctvnews.ca/politics/article/…

There is no such thing as race. But back when white people believed race was a scientific concept, Hispanics and southern Mediterraneans weren’t white. By his own standard Dale Partridge is in an interracial marriage.
Joel is correct. My wife is majority Italian and some Hispanic. Racially, she’s White. The 1948 Supreme Court case on interracial marriage was over a Hispanic woman (White) marrying a Black man. “Hispanic” is not a race. There are White Hispanics and Black Hispanics.

Here’s the thing. I don’t want a bot to shop online for me or order pizza. Those are fun and relaxing things. I want a robot to cut my lawn and wash the car and fold the laundry.
BREAKING: Zuckerberg just described the near-future of computing, and it has nothing to do with screens. His call: within 5 years, every person on Earth has a personal AI that knows their life, understands their goals, and does the work for them. Not a chatbot. Not a search box. An agent that is deeply, intimately embedded in how you live. When the person building the social layer for 3 billion people says this is where we're going, it's not a prediction. It's a roadmap. Is the personal AI agent the most valuable product anyone can build right now?

I’m not a potash expert but even someone with a cursory knowledge can tell you this isn’t true.
"I know many Canadians dislike giving President Trump some credit at times, but he made an important point about potash. Canada has managed potash much like dairy, tightly controlling supply and keeping prices high for decades."

Not sure if she’s angry that it’s made in the USA, that it’s vegetarian, that it has a weirdly short shelf life once the package is opened, or that it’s halal. Obviously the issue for me, as a Canadian, would be the country of origin. If it says ‘Made in the USA,’ I put it back.
Went to Costco for groceries, walked past the cheese aisle, and checked Tillamook myself. Yeah… it's on the package. Done with them.

Today is the last day to request a special ballot (mail-in) for the referendum. Election day will be a complete mess, so avoid the lines and vote by mail. specialballot.elections.ab.c…

A new poll from respected pollster Janet Brown shows support for separatism is falling. That’s good news. But we can’t be complacent. Let’s seal the deal by ALL voting in the referendum. Vote to remain in Canada and vote NO to Smith’s nine other MAGA-style rage-bait questions!

Where's my MAiD pamphlet this month? Mail must be slow.
Every Canadian gets a pamphlet in their mail, every 6 months for MAID. If you don’t fill it out and send it back in time, unqualified volunteers come to your house on snowshoes, tie you down with moosegut cords, and kill you by suffocation with a beaver tail. True story.

David's getting on board with Carney's Davos speech.
We cannot look back with nostaliga and wish for a return to the Canada that was. It is impossible, you cannot go back. The hope of the future must be in building something new. We have gone too far, what was is gone. We must deal with reality, with things as they are.

As a Canadian, the only place I ever hear about medical assistance in dying is on twitter, where it seems to be an evergreen topic for the American right. They'd be surprised to learn that up here, it's a total non-issue.
Someone should point out to the Canadians that by burying or burning the bodies of people who get MAID, they're wasting perfectly good calories! Think of how many marginalized children could be nourished with the processed biological remains of MAID patients!

Here’s the thing. Never sacrifice your kid on the altar of your own desire/interests/ideals. The only question that matters is, is this the best place for them? Are they getting what they need? They’ll tell you. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…

Canadians are preparing for the new normal.
Anne Applebaum on the notion that the U.S. will one day return to normal: "The ideas behind this administration, the idea of imperial dominance, of creating some kind of civilization with the MAGA movement at the centre of it, these ideas will remain part of American politics."

It's going to be a long wait. A bunch of questions, everything done by hand, on paper. Long lines will deter urban voters and benefit the separatists in rural ridings. Makes sense to cut that off at the pass by requesting a mail in ballot.
In the 2023 Alberta Provincial Election, 51,351 special ballots were cast. As of today, Elections Alberta has announced that over 500,000+ special ballots (read mail in ballots) have been requested. That's nearly a 10X increase on mail in ballots.

There is no reason that this referendum couldn’t happen online. You trust the internet for your banking and taxes.
She voted by special ballot. Without saying what side she voted for... is there something about her that seems like it needs a special ballot? Is there a reason she had to mail it in? It's ludicrous that we're enabling a vote-by-mail situation.
