The SPR is being depleted, troops are exhausted, mid terms around the corner.. time would favor the Iranians. Plus, it appears that the Iranians might be orchestrating an outcome in saudi and preemptively acted against the kurds
The Trump Administration is pursuing a strategy in the Iran War, and itโs NOT the blockadeโฆ necessarilyโฆ
Itโs the strategy of TIME. All events in warfare are likelihoods. An army of 500 men against an army of 1,000 men is โunlikelyโ to win.
But maybe they have a 3% chance to win. 97% chance of failure, but thatโs not the same as โguaranteed to failโ.
This is what we are seeing in the Iran War.
The dueling blockades is not a strategy that is remotely likely to succeed. We saw this play out when the United States attempted it the first timeโฆ only to sign the surrender MOU at Versailles.
But SOMETIMES Black Swan events do happen. Sometimes the 16 seed upsets the 1 seed.
That is why the Trump Administration is so focused on the Omani Route right now. Every barrel that leaves the Strait of Hormuz buys TIME. And every day Iran is under the blockade, it DOES cause damage to their already fragile economy.
As someone who is very publicly opposed to the viability of the blockade and economic warfare campaignโฆ that IS true.
If you have ever taken a psychology class, you will know about mob mentality. It sparks quickly, spirals out of control, and is unpredictable.
That is what Washington is hoping for here.
A Hail Mary. A pipe dream. A moonshot.
And while, without question, it is WILDLY unlikely that the Iranian government will be toppled due to economic pressures (likeโฆ REALLY unlikelyโฆ), that is not the same as โimpossibleโ.
Until President Trump is FORCED to cry uncle againโฆ heโs not going to surrender. Every day that the war is not overโฆ the war is not over.
Iran is in the drivers seat. The economic warfare campaign is exceptionally unlikely to succeed.
But the strategy of TIME is not one that is entirely without merit. Would it be far, far better to make a deal now and not hold out and cause greater global economic damage for extremely high likelihood of a future surrender again?
Yesโฆ but this is Donald Trump.
